People are just realizing their iPhone has a secret camera app that has a hidden use

People are only just realizing that their iPhone has a secret camera app with a hidden use.

You might think that you’ve figured out everything there is to know about your smartphone, especially when it comes to picture taking.

But you might be surprised to find out that there is a separate camera app hidden on your phone that you might have never used.

The app is actually very useful and it has a specific function.

Called the Magnifier, it has a very strong zoom that allows you to zoom in on small text to make it readable.

It also lets you zoom in on tiny objects so that you can examine them and has particular color filters that makes certain things easier to see.

The Apple app is a ‘game changer’ for many and one person took to social media to share their experience with using it.

Posting on Reddit, the user explained that they used to use the Camera app to check their face before leaving the house but ‘found the whole process tedious over time and left some embarrassing selfies in my photo library’.

They continued: “It wasn’t until I realized I had the Magnifier app, and it was the best thing ever since I was able to see details that I could never see before, even with an actual hand mirror!

“The first perk was the front camera is already zoomed in like how it normally is when in FaceTime or video mode, so you don’t have to awkwardly stick your face closer to your phone and limit your field of view.

“The second perk is that you can zoom in quite a lot with the front camera without having to take a photo. In fact, it’s so easy that you can just slide your thumb in the viewfinder up or down anywhere, it doesn’t have to be on the zoom slider.

“And to me, this is a game changer. Even with an actual hand mirror, no matter how close I put my face to my reflection, I can never see the finest details.”

Others agreed with the original poster, with one person replying: “I work in IT, and I can't count the number of times I've used Magnifier to grab a serial number off of a piece of equipment whose back wasn't readily accessible. Also use it to find ports on the same equipment. It's been a godsend.”

Another added: “I had no idea Magnifier was even an app. I’d assumed it was just an OS tool to magnify portions of the screen. This genuinely is useful to know about, thanks.”
