This week marked Apple’s release of its new operating system upgrade, iOS 27, which comes with a whole host of new features for iPhone users.
However, despite the buzz around the new iOS, one former Apple employee has taken to the internet to share which models he would avoid updating for risk of irritating your device.
TikToker Tyler Morgan often shares his tech tips online, with his videos earning him a whopping two million followers on the app.
With the new update being released on Monday (September 14), Morgan shared what he does - and doesn’t - recommend about the operating system.

Posting a video on social media, he explained: “The new apple updates out and I do recommend it for speed on every device. First the positives: faster AirDrop, faster speeds in general. That said, I would not upgrade to this if you have a 13 or lower. It's just gonna irritate your phone more than it's already irritated.”

AI photo features
While the content creator pointed out that some of the photo features, including being able to expand and reframe images, is ‘cool’, it’s also something that could become forgettable.
Morgan continued: “Like, that's very cool that that's able to do that, but I will never use it and I don't think many people will either. You ever thought that your screenshots took up too much memory? Me either, but apparently Apple did. You can basically save the video frame as a photo.”
Liquid Glass
It appears there is still not a way to completely switch off the Liquid Glass effect, which was introduced in 2025 and makes interfaces look and move like real-world glass and liquid.
Morgan said: “I know people that love Liquid Glass and I know people that really hate Liquid Glass. It would be nice to have a completely off option. If I had it my way, I'd have this [option] which is all the way transparent. Be more transparent like they had with the first beta of iOS 26, where it was just straight up clear.”
Siri AI
One feature that Morgan was impressed with is the newly revamped Siri AI, which he said has made the digital assistant ‘substantially better’.
He added: “It can pull information directly from your phone, it's impressive.”
Apple describes Siri AI as being able to ‘take actions in your apps, including third-party apps’.
On the Apple website, it states: “Siri AI also includes a dedicated app for users to revisit conversations across their products, an expanded Visual Intelligence experience, and integrated tools for writing.

“With a bold new architecture uniquely designed to protect users’ privacy, Siri AI leverages the next generation of Apple Intelligence to bring state-of-the-art understanding and reasoning, along with powerful system-wide capabilities, to Apple’s operating systems.”
How will upgrading to iOS 27 impact battery life?
However, there is one major downside to updating your device to iOS 27 and that is the potential impact it might have on your battery life.
This isn’t the first time an operating system update has impacted the battery of devices, and many users have reported similar issues happening with the most recent upgrade.
While battery drain is common during an update, it is usually temporary, so as Morgan states, if you’re fine ‘carrying around a battery pack all day’, there are plenty of new features to test out.
