Apple could potentially be gearing up for a major new collaboration with Elon Musk, as reports indicate that a 'revolutionary' feature could be on the horizon within the next iPhone release.
It's been nearly four years since Apple first introduced the option for a satellite connection with the release of the iPhone 14, and many people have championed it as a game-changing – potentially even life-saving – feature.
It is rather limited when it comes to who can take advantage of it though, as only certain regions have access to it at all, and within those regions its often only supported by one provider.
For example, to access satellite connections in the United States you need to be a T-Mobile customer, leaving anyone else on another network without the ability to use the handy tool.

However, that could soon change if reports are to be believed, as experts are predicting a major potential collaboration between Apple and Elon Musk that would see the tech giant take advantage of Starlink satellites for its services, as per Forbes.
Reports from The Information indicate that the prospective sale of Apple's current satellite partner Globalstar could potentially open the door for another company to step in, with Musk's Starlink being the likely and arguably best option.

In addition to this, information revealed by 9to5Mac indicates that the SpaceX subsidiary is now using the same radio spectrum that Apple employs for its iPhone satellite connection, making the transition effectively seamless.
It wouldn't be entirely effortless considering the current tensions between Musk and Apple, as the world's richest man has repeatedly called out the company amid claims that it prioritises rival services (chiefly ChatGPT, led by Musk's 'nemesis' Sam Altman) on the App Store.
Additionally, Musk previously attempted to partner with Apple for the initial launch of the iPhone's satellite services, but it fell through before the latter eventually went with Globalstar.
It would benefit the consumer significantly if the partnership was to form though, as not only would it provide industry-leading satellite connection speeds in remote areas, it would also open up the net to all iPhone users instead of a select few who happen to be on the right network.
For a service that has been touted as life-saving, this would be a massive change that many on social media hope comes to fruition.
Reacting to the news on Reddit, one user called it 'revolutionary', noting: "It'll be the most powerful portable router via hotspot. Being able to be online anywhere in the world is going to be quite the revolution for some."
Another argued that "as much as Musk is a douche, the overall net benefit can't be overlooked. Those of you who live in cities don't think about it but for example, there are so many areas around me with zero cell service.
"This will save lives on back country roads, help hunters call 911, and assist skiers, campers, and more in the wilderness."
