Apple made some pretty major announcements during their ‘Glowtime’ event yesterday.

Most notably, the iPhone 16 was unveiled and more light was shed on what to expect from iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence.

Exciting new features were introduced for the new Apple Watch Series 10 and for AirPods, which will both have vital health technology added in.

However, there was one announcement that has left Apple fans feeling a little underwhelmed.

The tech giant revealed the new AirPod Max 2, the first upgrade since the AirPod Max was released in 2020.

But a lot of fans seem to be unimpressed with the update, slamming it as ‘the weakest product upgrade they’ve ever released’.

The headphones will come with a 20-hour battery, noise cancellation, transparency mode, personalized spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, Siri and audio sharing, but users are struggling to notice any major change from the old model.

In fact, many are arguing that the only noticeable difference is the switch from a lightning connector to a USB-C to charge the device.

Unlike the other variants of AirPods, the Max won’t be getting the new H2 chip and instead will be the only version still using the H1 chip.

Unhappy fans took to Reddit to share their thoughts about the announcement, with one writing: “This was beyond underwhelming.”

Another user said: “It’s literally just a port swap from Lightning to USB-C.”

A third added: “Absolutely not, $549 just to have USB-C and the same only H1 chip? You couldn’t even add the features the AirPods Pro have? And these are the MAX?! Ridiculous.”

A fourth person joked: “AirPods Mid.”

Another said: “I’m so grateful for Apple these days helping me not spend more money by releasing things I’m not interested in buying.”

And a sixth person added: “Not even adding in the H2 chip? Goddamn Apple, I know the move to USB-C is what I was mainly waiting for, but still using the H1 stings.”

Over on YouTube, people flooded the comment section of the Apple event to give their criticisms of the product.

One person wrote: “Haha the AirPods Max are just a scam at this point.”

And another user claimed: “That AirPods Max upgrade is the weakest product upgrade they’ve ever released.”

The new version of the Airpods Max will cost $549 and is available to preorder now, with the release date being set for September 20.
