A YouTuber has shared the shocking revenue that can be earned from getting one million views on YouTube shorts.
The YouTube channel in question, vidIQ, has lifted the lid on how much content creators actually make from their viral videos.
In the clip, the YouTuber explained: “This is how much money I made from one million shorts views.
“Everyone got super excited when monetization came to shorts because it opened up the door for ad revenue, making dollars from views has always been a fantastic way to make passive income so what’s the experience like for shorts creators?
“Well here’s my analytics, this is shorts, this is one million views and yeah that’s $58. It’s not very much, is it? The big problem here is how much money you make per 1,000 views, otherwise known as RPM, it is just six cents and by way of comparison, this is how much you make from one million long form views, five and a half thousand dollars, one hundred times as much.

“To actually earn ad revenue from your YouTube shorts you do need 10 million views over three months so if you do the quick maths that’s three million views per month or around about $150 in revenue, so yeah earning tons of money from YouTube shorts isn’t as easy as *clicks fingers*.”
Many people took to the YouTube comment section to share their reactions to the revelation.
One user wrote: “$58 with 1 million views is criminally low.”
Another said: “i would still be proud to earn $58 as a small creator because earning money from creating content is an achievement to me.”

A third person commented: “Well I would understand that YouTube shorts earn less money because first they're short and second they have different experience since there is short feed. That also means that thumbnails aren't necessary and titles are less important, just the first few seconds are important.”

And a fourth added: “The new shorts monetization was definitely a giant letdown. Over a couple million views and only a few bucks. Compared to my long form, shorts are a complete waste of time.”
The YouTube channel offers its viewers advice on navigating your own channel with information on how to get views, more subscribers, and get monetized.
