Private investigators are bound to deal with some fascinating scenarios that aren't often as straightforward as they look, and one veteran PI has revealed the most interesting case he has solved across his 25 years on the job so far.

There are countless reasons why someone might want to hire a private investigator, whether you suspect that a loved one isn't being honest with you or whether you need to track someone down, but there's a good chance for there to be some kind of bumps along the way.

It's certainly not easy for private investigators to get the information they need while remaining inconspicuous, and they'll often run into situations that veer into the gray area of morality.

With over 25 years on the job, private investigator Mike LaCorte is bound to have countless stories to share across the cases he's taken onboard, yet there's one in particular that he has singled as the most interesting for a number of reasons.

As shared in an interview with WIRED, LaCorte outlines that his most fascinating case involved the intersection between infidelity and blackmail that made things rather challenging.

"A client of ours was being blackmailed. This individual had a mistress, and that information would have been devastating to him if his family found out," the private investigator explains, "and whilst morally that is wrong, blackmail is a criminal offense too."

The blackmailing appeared to begin when his mistresses' computer was compromised, leading to the data that revealed their affair being printed and shared with the client, to the point where it was even left on his car for potentially all to see.

"We started to put an investigation together," LaCorte illustrates. "We used a combination of forensics on the computer to try and see if we could get leads from that. We swept the address and the vehicles to make sure there were no listening devices.

"In the end, we identified the blackmailing group. A couple of the individuals who were behind it ended up being deported."

While the investigation itself was without a doubt an incredibly challenging process for LaCorte to undertake, the reason why it has stood out so much for him over the years is the moral conundrum that he was caught between.

"That was a testing time for all of us," he asserts, "because it pushed our investigation boundary to its maximum.

"You've got a client on one hand that has potentially done something that's immoral in terms of the way he lives his personal life, and then you've got criminal activity that's taking place trying to extort and blackmail the client for personal gain."

One fascinating thing that many comments underneath the video have picked out as well from LaCorte's answer is how adeptly he manages to avoid revealing any information beyond what's absolutely necessary to the story.

"Watching him pause as he tried to think of a way to explain certain situations without breach of contract was so funny," wrote one user, and it's impressive that we were able to get exactly what we needed without knowing anything beyond the pure facts.
