A doctor has sent out an important warning for anyone who owns a pair of Apple AirPods.

This warning has circulated social media after Apple announced the release of various new products during their Glowtime event earlier this month.

The tech giant unveiled the new iPhone 16 along with the Apple Watch Series 10 and other products including a new model of AirPods.

However, an NHS doctor has released a message to all users of the device or any other type of in-ear wireless buds.

The surgeon and lecturer at Sunderland University, Dr Karan Rajan, regularly uploads videos to TikTok where he gives out advice and busts different health myths.

His content has gained him a huge following of around 5.3 million people who were shocked by a recent clip he posted about the Apple earphones.

In the video, Dr Rajan was responding to another clip where someone had revealed that they were ‘breaking up with long period use of my AirPods’.

The user went on to put their AirPods next to a signal-reading device, demonstrating how it beeped as they moved further away.

Explaining what the beeping meant, the TikTok creator said: “Listen to how it gets stronger as I walk away and the signal from the AirPods tries to reach my phone.”

While the significance of the video left some viewers puzzled, Dr Rajan explained all, detailing how wireless Bluetooth devices emit ‘low level radio frequency radiation’, also known as EMF.

The doctor went on to describe how EMFs are categorized as category 2B carcinogens.

He said: “In group 2A and especially in group 2B, there are items that have no proof of cancer causation. Group 2B has ‘carcinogens’ like coffee, aloe vera and pickled vegetables [...] The type of radiation from your AirPods is non-ionising radiation, so low in energy that it can't damage your cells.”

While this doesn’t mean that your AirPods will cause cancer, Dr Rajan did give a reason why you might want to limit how much you’re using the earbuds.

He added: “The only reason for limiting the number of hours you use your AirPods in the day is to protect your hearing - not to worry about cancer.”

Many viewers took to the comment section to share their reactions, with one user writing: “I like how you debunk this kind of stuff.”

And another person added: “Dr Reason strikes again... appreciate you doc.”
