Let's be real, sometimes water just doesn't hit the same way as a cold can of Coke, your hot morning coffee, or a glass of wine after work.

But, you don't need me to tell you that water is vital for life, and without it, our bodies can struggle to function properly.

Dehydration can start with things like dry mouth, headaches and fatigue, but can escalate to more serious symptoms like dizziness, confusion, muscle cramps, rapid heartbeat, and in extreme cases, kidney failure.

While staying hydrated isn't as challenging as, say, running 5k every day, plenty of us still fall short of drinking enough water regularly.

So what benefits can you expect if you replace all your beverages with just water for a month?

Weight loss

First and foremost, if you're swapping out calorie-heavy drinks for water, you're going to consume fewer calories overall. Drinking water can help reduce your calorie intake.

A study of over 18,000 adults found that people who stuck to water tended to eat healthier and consume fewer calories overall and, as a result, they lost weight.

Water is also a natural appetite suppressant, various health studies have shown that drinking two glasses of water before meals can help dieters lose more weight.

Improved mood

If you're used to regular caffeine or sugar hits, you can expect to feel pretty rough initially. Headaches and irritability are normal withdrawal symptoms.

However, if you can stick them out, your mood will only improve, as reported by Healthline.

You can also avoid the spikes and crashes that come from sugar consumption.

Better sleep

Being properly hydrated can improve sleep quality, as dehydration makes it harder for your body to regulate its temperature.

One YouTuber found that drinking more water increased his energy levels, reporting that he felt less 'foggy' in the mornings.

But the important thing is getting the timing right. Numan notes that too much water late in the day means interrupted sleep for bathroom breaks, while too little leaves you waking up thirsty.

The key is staying hydrated throughout the day without overdoing it before bed.

Greater focus

Without the constant cycle of caffeine highs and crashes, some people find they can focus better throughout the day. Too much coffee or sugary drinks can dehydrate you and mess with your ability to think clearly.

Drinking water will make you less tired, give you more energy and help you focus throughout the day.

Flush out toxins

Regularly consuming too many sodas and soft drinks can put extra strain on your kidneys over time.

Your kidneys are responsible for filtering waste from your blood and maintaining fluid balance, and excessive sugar intake can make this job harder.

Water helps your kidneys do their regular job of filtering waste products and maintaining proper fluid levels. When you're well-hydrated, your kidneys can work more efficiently to process waste through your urine.
