Villagers tie telecom technician to mobile tower after two years of bad signal
A group of villagers appeared to take matters into their own hands after they tracked down a telecom technician following two years of suffering bad signal in their local area.
The incident took place in the Uttar Pradesh state of India, where residents of a local village went to the extreme of tying their local Jio technician to a mobile tower.
This was reported by Al Jazeera News, who shared a video on TikTok of the man who appeared tied up by cables.
According to the news outlet, one man could be heard saying: “The issue hasn’t been resolved for two years. There is no network, even when there is electricity. The network is absent. Villagers recharge for 5G, but not a single problem gets resolved.

“Because of this, a live technician from Jio has come here, alright? We’ve tied him up because of the issue, OK?
“We’re keeping him restrained. Until his superiors arrive, we won’t release him. All of the villagers are present here. Until they come, we won’t let him go. This problem has been ongoing for two years.”
Police were called to a ‘hostage’ situation involving the tied up technician
Al Jazeera News reported that the technician had arrived to inspect the issues that the village was having with connecting to the 5G network but found himself on the receiving end of a lot of unhappy customers.
Naturally, the clip gained a lot of attention on social media, with many users taking to TikTok themselves to share their own reactions to the video, as one person wrote: “I think he's gonna struggle to fix it whilst stuck like that.”
Another said: “And how does tying the technician up help the 5G work.”
A third user joked: “They sacrificing bro to the T-mobile gods.”
And a fourth added: “the poor man does not even control that. wtf is wrong with people.”
Luckily for the technician, it was confirmed that police were called to the ‘hostage’ situation and freed him from the communications tower later that same day.
Six villagers were also arrested and the man has since filed a complaint over the ordeal, which could make repercussions worse for the people involved.
It is not clear whether the stunt was successful in moving towards a resolution for the villagers’ problem with internet connectivity but it seems they might have other issues with the law to resolve first.
