Viral TikTok trend had a bizarre effect on your Pornhub habits in 2024

Be very 'mindful' what you're searching online

As 2024 comes to an end and we look ahead to 2025, it's time to look back at a year that's been quite the wild ride.

From Hawk Tuah Girl to Moo Deng mania, the Eras Tour to Zendaya's red carpet look for Dune: Part Two, this was just the start.

We had sad Oompa Loompas, Google AI telling us to put glue on pizzas, Raygun breaking the Paris Olympics, The Substance, and Timothée Chalamet lookalike contests.

A lot of these viral moments took off because of TikTok, but in the same year the U.S. government finally put plans in motion to ban the short-form video service, the TikTok trend could soon be over.

It's wild to see how far some of these trends have come, with Pornhub's Year in Review showing how they've even burrowed into our bedrooms.

Similar to how Haliey "Hawk Tuah Girl" Welch has found herself the desire of some people's NSFW thoughts, the 'Very Demure' trend has crawled between the sheets.

Jools Lebron's original video telling us how to be 'very demure' and 'very mindful' in our everyday lives has clocked in over five million likes, with Pornhub reporting it spilled over into its own world.

Pornhub writes: "Very demure, very mindful. These words resonated throughout the cultural consciousness and, of course, trickled into the porn people watched.

“The viral TikTok video accumulated over 50 million views, and as a result, our statisticians started seeing viewers searching for related content."

Searches for 'demure' apparently climbed by 133%, while 'mindful pleasure' rose by 112%, and 'mindful JOI' (we'll let you search the acronym) was up 87%. In general, searches for 'modesty' went up by 77%.

Explaining why searches for demure have skyrocketed, Dr Laurie Betito, the clinical psychologist, author, speaker, and director of Pornhub’s Sexual Wellness Center, said: "It seems people may be pining for a simpler time – looking for things that are less complicated and maybe seeking out more meaningful experiences."

Considering 'demure' knocked 'Brat summer' off our FYP and was everywhere for a hot minute, we're not surprised users were checking it out on Pornhub.

Also, with 90.5% of Pornhub's traffic coming from mobile users in 2024, it sounds like it was a case of you getting bored of endlessly scrolling on TikTok so swiping straight over to Pornhub.

Lebron's original video took off like no one could've expected, with celebrities ranging from Jennifer Lopez to Lindsay Logan posting their own versions. It even made it to the White House when the government Instagram account captioned a picture of President Joe Biden with: "Cancelling the student debt of nearly 5 million Americans through various actions. Very mindful. Very demure.”

Although the mindful and demure trend has died out somewhat, we'll be back in 2025 to see which TikTok trend (if it's not banned) has made it to Pornhub's next year in review.
