Tesla is offering a sizeable wage for this futuristic job role that has some strange responsibilities

The bizarre role will mean wearing a motion suit and VR headset during your shift

There’s a very futuristic job role going at Tesla that comes with a sizeable wage and some strange responsibilities.

Last month, tech mogul Elon Musk made the chilling announcement that he would begin mass production of humanoid Tesla robots as early as next year.

The Tesla Optimus Gen 2 is also known as the Tesla Bot was first announced in 2021 and a prototype was displayed in 2022.

Production will start at just over a thousand but the billionaire predicts that soon there will be around 20 billion Tesla Bots working in companies and homes.

This is because he reckons that every person in the world will require at least two robots to complete useful everyday tasks.

Now, there is a new vacancy to fill for people to help Tesla with the training of its robots.

The role will be “data collection operators” and will be employed at the firm’s Palo Alto facility.

Responsibilities in the job will include collecting data, assisting with engineering requests, and sharing equipment feedback.

Tesla has said that the “ideal candidate” will obviously need to have an interest in robotics and want to “contribute to the development of Tesla Bot”.

The company has detailed that candidates will need to have the ability to stand, sit, walk, stoop, bend, reach, crouch and twist during shifts as well as requiring “continuous hand/eye coordination, fine manipulation, body coordination, and kinaesthetic awareness as well as the ability to walk up/downstairs”.

This is likely due to a strange part of the job which will require you to wear a continuous motion suit and a VR headset.

The job advertisement has warned that this can be “disorienting and uncomfortable for some people, which can result in VR sickness symptoms”.

Because of the motion suit, applicants will also need to be between 5’7” and 5’11” in order to bag the job.

You also might need to be quite active as the role involves walking a test route daily while carrying up to 30lbs for more than seven hours per day.

If you’re still interested, the futuristic role offers between $25.25 and $48 an hour, plus stock options and benefits.

It looks like we could soon be seeing Tesla Bots out in the real world as there are currently two humanoid Tesla robots already working in a factory where they are able to perform tasks autonomously.

On X, Musk wrote: “Tesla will have genuinely useful humanoid robots in low production for Tesla internal use next year and, hopefully, high production for other companies in 2026.”
