Users are baffled by Reddit's new logo as people try to figure out what it is

Fries, a stick of butter, a blond mohawk?

Reddit appear to have launched a new logo and people are still trying to figure out what it is.

Just when you think you've got used to something, your favorite brand goes and changes things up. We saw YouTube do it when it revamped its logo, and while it might only be a subtle color change, it's enough to send the internet into a spin.

Twitter is perhaps the best example, and even 18 months after Elon Musk rebranded it to X, some of us refuse to let go of that blue bird. Now, Reddit has left its users baffled and annoyed in equal measure for what it's done to poor Snoo.

While they're maybe not up there the likes of Mickey Mouse, Chester Cheetah, or the Pringles guy, Snoo has become synonymous with Reddit. We're used to being able to customize our own version of Snoo, but typically, they're depicted as a genderless and voiceless alien with a pom-pom on their head.

The new and (un)improved Snoo is now sporting a bizarre headpiece on the Reddit app logo.

Users have taken to Reddit to share their dismay, namely trying to figure out what's on top of Snoo's head.

Is it a banana, is it a stick of butter? Many don’t know. To be honest, we think it looks a bit like someone has built a yellow cityscape atop Snoo.

One angry critic wrote: "I still can’t tell what the f**k is on his head."

Another raged, "I literally came to the comments hoping someone knew what it was because it looks like a blonde mohawk to me," and a third said, "I hate it. Looks like a bunch of French Fries on the head."

A fourth went even further and put poor Snoo in their crosshairs as they wrote: "Someone has to post this on r/assholedesign."

Someone has the answer, and yes, it's a banana.

Solving the mystery, someone concluded: "Answer: every year Reddit recap, (Reddit’s equivalent of Spotify wrapped), comes out at the start of December. One of the key metrics they measure is how far you scrolled in the year. That distance is measured in bananas which, as a result, serve as a sort of symbol to represent Reddit recap as a whole."

It's clear that the Reddit Recap isn't as popular as Spotify Wrapped, but at least the mystery of Snoo is solved.

Snoo is quite literally baked into the core of Reddit, with co-founder Alexis Ohanian doodling them during a marketing class while at the University of Virginia.

Apparently, Ohanian originally wanted to call the site S'new (What's New?") but when Reddit was the winner, S'new evolved into Snoo as its mascot.

Thankfully, Snoo's new look is only a temporary wardrobe change and we expect them to be back to their old self before too long.
