For the past 22 years, Jimmy Kimmel has been keeping us entertained with Jimmy Kimmel Live! – even though it's not technically been live since Thomas Jane went on a swear-filled rant in 2004.
Now, ABC's longest-running talk show faces an uncertain future, with the network placing Kimmel's show on indefinite hiatus due to comments he made about Charlie Kirk's shooting.
The 31-year-old political commentator was gunned down while discussing gun violence at Utah Valley University, with Tyler Robinson currently in custody amid accusations that he was the shooter.
We've already seen people lose their jobs for mocking Kirk's assassination, while others have called for Marvel's Chris Pratt to lose his role as Star-Lord for supporting the controversial commentator.

Proving that no one is above being cancelled, ABC has pulled the plug on Jimmy Kimmel Live! after 3,588 episodes.

Speaking during a September 15 episode, Kimmel appeared to joke about Kirk's murder and said: "The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
He also apparently disagreed with flags being flown at half-mast, as well as Donald Trump's reaction. Kimmel continued: "This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he calls a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish."

The President has celebrated Kimmel's cancellation, although others have pointed out that he did actually share his condolences in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
Taking to social media, Kimmel said that we needed to stop pointing fingers and should mourn the loss of a life due to 'senseless gun violence'. He also offered his well-wishes to the Kirk family and others who were affected by shootings.
Over on Reddit, one person shared Kimmel's condolences and wrote: "You can be kind all you want to conservatives but the second you mess up: it’s over."
Someone else added: "And 'messing up' is exercising your free speech, at a very very basic level. Kimmel didn't say sh*t abt Kirk, just abt the way the media was spinning it."

A third chimed in saying: "Only free speech advocates if they agree with it. Cognitive dissonance is alarming."
Others in the comments called for people to cancel their Disney+ subscription, with many claiming they'd already done it.

Kimmel has been supported by a number of big names, as several Hollywood stars have spoken out in his defense.
Despite making a tearful statement about Kirk's passing, Jamie Lee Curtis shared a picture of Kimmel to her Instagram story alongside a quote attributed to him that said: "I don't think anybody should be canceled. I really don't."
Ben Stiller also took to X and wrote: "This isn't right."
Political commentator and MSNBC host Chris Hayes added: "This is the most straightforward attack on free speech from state actors I've ever seen in my life and it's not even close."

The news even caught the attention of California's Governor Gavin Newsom, who concluded: "Buying and controlling media platforms. Firing commentators. Canceling shows. These aren't coincidences. It's coordinated. And it's dangerous. The @GOP does not believe in free speech. They are censoring you in real time."
