World's richest man Elon Musk reveals his new 'palace' is a trailer
If most people suddenly earned as much money as Elon Musk it's likely that the first thing they'd turn to would be a bigger house, yet the world's richest man seemingly loves to live modestly as he reveals where he's been spending his nights in recent months.
Revealing the unexpected news while speaking at the All-In Summit, as per Business Insider, the man who briefly became a trillionaire earlier this year indicated that he's been living in an Airstream trailer for large parts of this year.
While Airstream do pride themselves on providing a 'luxury' version of the travel trailer, it is still far from what you'd expected Elon Musk to be calling his home considering his roughly $925 billion net worth.
It's certainly not out of the question for the tech mogul, however, as he has a long history of low-key living situations that suggest he's not one for a large or lavish home, but it might shock many nonetheless.
Why is Elon Musk living in a trailer?
Commutes have consistently been the driving factor behind Elon Musk's living arrangements and it seems like it's no different this time around, as living in a trailer allows him to easily and quickly get to and from the ongoing construction of xAI's Macrohard data center in Tennesse.

He revealed that this allows him to sleep mere 'steps' from the servers where a more lavish home would take him potentially hours to travel to and from work every day — and those hours could be better spent being productive instead.
It certainly shows the mindset that Musk has when it comes to his willingness to 'sacrifice' his own personal circumstances for his work, although he still deemed the trailer to be a 'palace' in a somewhat facetious remark.
Musk has a history of strange homes
As mentioned, living in a trailer is far from the only modest home that Musk has had over the years, and it's got to the point where those close to him would likely be surprised if he ended up in a mansion somehow.
"This is Elon, by the way," proclaimed SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell when reacting to news of Musk living in a trailer. "Doing what people don't believe he does: he sleeps on the factory floor. He's in Memphis helping build buildings."
Previously one of Musk's more long-term living arrangements saw him live in a rented home worth around $50,000 purely for its close proximity to the SpaceX Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas — yet he was regularly known to sleep in the office after officially taking over Twitter back in 2022.
