Australia continues to be the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to viral videos, and now we've added another to the hall of greats.

Identical twins Bridgette and Paula Powers have gone viral in Australia, explaining the moment their mother was faced with a carjacker.

Speaking to 7News Queensland, the pair discussed the armed attack on April 21, but instead of being captivated by the story, most were drawn to how the pair finished each other's sentences and answered questions with the same phrases.

Almost perfectly in sync, the twins creepily recited: "He was coming back down towards us and he goes 'run, he's got a gun' and our hearts started to pound."

The sisters also seemed to mimic the same hand movements, further hyping the idea that it they share some sort of psychic connection or the whole thing was planned.

This isn't the first time Bridgette and Paula have gone viral, with them notably appearing in a 2016 Good Morning Britain segment where Piers Morgan chuckled at their synchronization. The twins are known for running Queensland's Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue, which they founded after they met with the late Steve Irwin before his death in 2006.

Speaking to the Australian Broadcasting Company in 2021, the Powers sisters explained their unique bond and way of talking. Although some have claimed they're frauds, they told ABC: "Our brains must think alike at the same time."

Saying that it might be 'weird', they added that it 'doesn't feel right' to change the way they talk. Admitting that "we do annoy a lot of people," they concluded, "We never get sick of one another."

Giving us some real The Shining vibes, their viral resurgence has sparked a debate about whether the pair could be telepathic.

There are plenty of incidents of twins being supposedly telepathic over the course of history, but speaking to ITV, Tania Johnson from the Institute of Child Psychology claimed there's no evidence that telepathy among twins actually exists: "What we are likely seeing here is a deep familiarity....a powerful connection that has been shaped by years of shared experiences, emotional closeness and shared genetics."

Saying that identical twins grow up 'deeply attuned' to each other, Johnson added: "They often will think alike, speak alike, and act alike simply because they know one another so well - what we are seeing here is the result of an incredibly strong bond."

The result is referred to as 'mirroring', which Johnson says is, "A natural process that occurs when people who are closely connected start to unconsciously reflect each other."

She continued: "Over time, their brains have developed an instinctive understanding of one another. So while it looks like they are reading each other's minds, we are really just seeing a deep attunement to one another."

For those asking about the difference between identical and non-identical twins, Johnson expanded: "Identical twins share 100% of their DNA, while fraternal twins share about 50%, just like any siblings.

"This genetic closeness can lead to more similar personalities, temperaments, and interests, which can deepen their bond."

With identical twins tending to look the same and being treated the same by those around them, "their emotional and social worlds often becomes intertwined."

Johnson concluded: "This is really about being so deeply interconnected that you end up experiencing and seeing the world almost as if you were one."

Even though the Powers twins might not be psychic superheroes akin to the X-Men, it's clear they have a bond that goes beyond most that siblings share.
