One man was left stunned after finding out that his parents’ coffee machine was broadcasting a whopping 1TB of data within days of connecting it to the WiFi.
According to the man, who took to social media to voice his grievances, the coffee machine had been online for just 10 days and in that time had managed to broadcast an entire terabyte’s worth of information.
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, the unhappy customer wrote: “Hey uh, @Keurig - what the hell is a COFFEE MACHINE uploading, let me double check… ONE F***ING TERABYTE OF DATA IN 10 DAYS!?!?
“Immediately unplugging that. Getting my parents a new coffee machine.”

The coffee machine in question is the K-Supreme SMART Single Serve Coffee Maker by Keurig which, in the product description, details how it comes with WiFi enabled BrewID technology, which recognizes your specific K-Cup pod and customizes your brew settings. It will also make recommendations for the most flavorful brew.
Coffee machine appears to have broadcasted 1TB of data
In a follow up tweet, the man, who goes by Nomad online, continued: “This blew up. So, hi, I've been in I.T. for 10+ years, recently swapped to working at Prusa. I looked further into this, it did broadcast 1TB of data, but most of that didn't escape my network. This is likely a bug with this unit. It did saturate my AP, that sucked.”
Nomad shared how he had thought about looking into the issue further but decided it was best to keep the machine disconnected from the internet, adding that it was ‘not worth keeping an IOT device connected that has the capability of bugging out and causing saturation like this did’.
The tweets prompted a response on social media, with others taking to the X comment section to share their own reactions.

One user wrote: “When does someone need his coffee machine connected to the internet?”
And another said: “Why in the world is a COFFEE MACHINE uploading data?!”
The rise of smart and AI coffee machines
While many have questioned why the coffee machine would need to have an internet connection to brew a cup of joe, it seems smart household appliances are on the rise.
Smart coffee machines in particular often come with an accompanying app which can direct the user on how to make barista-style coffees as well as personalized recommendations and saved favorites.
