Insane photo compares size of Titanic with $2 billion The Icon of the Seas cruise ship and the difference is insane

The Royal Caribbean ship can fit over twice the amount of passengers than the Titanic

An insane photo has compared the size of the Titanic with the $2 billion Icon of the Seas cruise ship and the difference is insane.

Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas set sail for its first commercial season back in 2024, making it the largest cruise ship in the world.

The giant ship measures around 1,198 feet in length, with 20 decks and accommodating up to 7,600 guests at maximum capacity.

The Titanic however, which was the biggest ship in the world at the time of its launch in 1912, pales in comparison.

It measured around 882.75 feet in length, had just 10 decks and could fit around 2,400 passengers on board.

The Titanic set sail for its maiden voyage from Southampton on April 10, 1912, stopping in France and Ireland before heading across the Atlantic Ocean towards New York City.

However, the ship tragically sank before reaching its destination when it famously struck an iceberg around 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

With over 100 years between the two vessels, an image of them photoshopped together is doing the rounds on social media, with many people sharing their shock at the differences.

On Reddit, one user said: “Okay but the size difference is actually insane though. The Titanic was considered the unsinkable ship back in the day and now we have these massive cruise ships that dwarf it. The engineering progress is honestly crazy to see side by side like this!”

Another wrote: “But gotta admit the Titanic got the look of a real ship, while the Icon of the seas looks just like a floating city in the water.”

A third person joked: “Now imagine the well dressed people on the Titanic gasping and clutching their pearls as the Icon of the Seas pulls alongside, dwarfing the biggest, most luxurious ship of all time, absolutely blaring a bass distorted Nicki Minaj song at max volume while 5,000 people on the pool deck make TikToks and twerk in their direction with their tongues hanging out. What a different world we live in.”

And a fourth added: “The Titanic had a capacity of around 3k people (both passengers [2.4k] and crew [900]). The Icon of the Seas has a capacity of nearly 10k (both passengers [7.6k] and crew [2.4k]). The entire crew of The Icon of the Seas could fill the passenger capacity of the Titanic. That's insane.”
