Mike Tyson releases statement after being sued for $1,600,000 over Jake Paul

Mike Tyson releases statement after being sued for $1,600,000 over Jake Paul

Iron Mike isn't taking this one lying down

Mike Tyson has finally responded to a lawsuit over his latest opponent, YouTuber Jake Paul.

Mike Tyson might have reportedly earned an impressive $20 million from his November 15 fight against Jake Paul, but now, someone is coming for a slice of his pie. Despite controversial rule changes that included heavier gloves and shorter rounds, it was a fully sanctioned fight. Jake Paul's team has already batted off accusations that the fight was fixed, and now, Team Tyson finds itself in the firing line.

A Cyprus-registered company that promotes Rabona, an online casino and betting company, has filed a lawsuit.

Medier filed the suit in October 2024, alleging that a 'hasty and unlawful termination' of its contract with Tyson was due to the 58-year-old boxer and his Tyrannic company entering a deal to take on Jake Paul.

The deal between Tyrannic and Medier was terminated in March, with Tyson's side maintaining it was because Medier breached an agreement. As this was on the same day the Jake Paul fight was announced, Medier's lawyers claim its actions didn't warrant a breach and that it had to do with the more lucrative partnership. Medier says early termination lost the company around $1.6 million, which spurred the legal actions.

Court documents released on December 6 state: "The true reason for Mr Tyson and Tyrannic's hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr Tyson had agreed a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul."

In a statement shared by UNILAD Tyson's team has responded and denied any wrongdoing: "Medier materially breached the terms of its agreement with Tyrannic multiple times by exceeding the scope of the restricted license that was granted, causing, among other things, financial and reputational damage to the company and Mr. Tyson.

"Tyrannic properly terminated the agreement and is confident that the Court will view this dispute in its favor."

Medier's lawsuit comes after a Florida man reportedly filed proceedings against Netflix, seeking $50 million in damages due to technical issues with the fight. Netflix has downplayed the gremlins in the system, saying that with some 60 million households tuning in, it was a certified hit.

Despite complaints over the fight and the fact that Paul won on points, there are already calls for a rematch. Tyson has seemingly been offered a record-breaking $700 million to step back into the ring and settle the score, although it's unclear whether this is a legitimate offer from Saudi Arabia's Turki Alalshikh and the Country's General Entertainment Authority. As for Jake Paul, despite saying he's retiring from influencer boxing, his professional career shows no signs of slowing down and there’s no shortage of offers for who he could fight next.
