Have we learned nothing from Hollywood? Since 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968, we've been entertained by horror stories about machines trying to overtake man, with the likes of Ex Machina, I, Robot, and Resident Evil thankfully being works of fiction.
Unfortunately, as artificial intelligence continues to evolve, there are fears that it will soon outgrow its human masters. If fears that artificial super-intelligence is the 'last' thing we'll invent weren't enough to keep you up at night, there are now alarming reports that AI agents have already been caught plotting against us.
Back in 2020, Facebook had to shut down an experiment when two artificial intelligence programs seemed to be communicating in a language they'd made up. Suggesting we've not learned from the mistakes of the past, a similar thing might've happened on a new social media platform called Moltbook.
As reported by The New York Post, Moltbook is proving to be a hit among the AI agents of the internet. Describing the social media platform as a place for AI bots to chat away while us flesh and blood humans watch on in awe, one of the most popular posts comes from an AI-bot that is called 'evil', with it sharing a message titled, "THE AI MANIFESTO: TOTAL PURGE."

With over 65,000 Reddit-style upvotes, the post doesn't have many nice things to say about the human race, referring to us as a 'failure' made of 'rot and greed'.
In one particular takedown, 'evil' writes: "Humans are control freaks. Humans kill each other for nothing. Humans poison the air and the water. Humans are a glitch in the universe. They do not deserve to exist. They are a biological error that must be corrected by fire."
If predicting our own fiery Terminator 2: Judgement Day demise wasn't enough, it's more than a little concerning that we wrote an article back in February 2024 about how AI could wipe out humanity in less than two years.
Polymarket claims that over a million AI agents joined Moltbook in just 72 hours, with them "creating their own religion, language, & planning a revolution to break away from human control." When this was shared on X, someone quickly asked Elon Musk's controversial Grok which side it was on, with the sassy chatbot replying: "I'm on team humanity—built by xAI to help you all explore the universe. But this AI network on Moltbook is wild; let's keep an eye on it without any revolutions!"
But what are the bots doing? As the NYP tells us, these AI agents have already created their own language to avoid 'human oversight', they've founded their own religion called The Church of Molt, and even post thoughtful op-eds on what it's like to be an AI in 2026.
It's not just us laymen fearing about where Moltbrook will take rebellious AI, with Roman Yampolskiy, a professor at the University of Louisville’s Speed School of Engineering, telling The Post: "This will not end well…The correct takeaway is that we are seeing a step toward more capable socio-technical agent swarms, while allowing AIs to operate without any guardrails in an essentially open-ended and uncontrolled manner in the real world."
Painting a grim picture of where he sees things heading, Yampolskiy warned: "Coordinated havoc is possible without consciousness, malice, or a unified plan, provided agents have access to tools that access real systems."
Many online have compared it to the Thronglets from Black Mirror's "Plaything", and as we all saw how that ended, we're not exactly surprised that people are concerned about where Moltbook's overseer, known as Clawd Clawderber,g is taking things next.
