The terrifying way AI’s third phase of agents may impact life of everyone on Earth has been revealed.

The first stage was the chatbots, followed by assistants but the third phase of the advancement of artificial intelligence could change life in the world as we know it.

This new phase will bring in the agents, which are systems that aim to have a greater autonomy.

On the OpenAI website, it introduced the new ChatGPT agent, stating: “ChatGPT can now do work for you using its own computer, handling complex tasks from start to finish.

“You can now ask ChatGPT to handle requests like ‘look at my calendar and brief me on upcoming client meetings based on recent news’, ‘plan and buy ingredients to make Japanese breakfast for four’, and ‘analyze three competitors and create a slide deck’.

ChatGPT will intelligently navigate websites, filter results, prompt you to log in securely when needed, run code, conduct analysis, and even deliver editable slideshows and spreadsheets that summarize its findings.

“At the core of this new capability is a unified agentic system. It brings together three strengths of earlier breakthroughs: Operator’s ability to interact with websites, deep research’s skill in synthesizing information, and ChatGPT’s intelligence and conversational fluency.”

While the fast advancement of the technology is exciting, concerns have also been raised on what this could mean for humanity.

How will AI agents impact humanity?

One of the biggest risks with the progression of AI to humans is the concern that human jobs could be replaced with robots.

People have taken to social media to voice their fears around AI, with one user writing on Reddit: “If such agent could fulfill goals autonomously, or even forever work in background, then they will affect common man much more than ChatGPT did.

“Imagine having whitecollar in pocket, that can also interact autonomously with outside world.”

Another said: “Agents will be handling all of the white collar jobs through a computer, while collecting money for their owners (AI companies and investors).”

And a third asked: “Will these so called agents solve poverty or create even more?”

This prompted a reply from a fourth user who said: “More wealth disparity than there is now, that is for sure.”

It is unclear how the AI agents will be regulated, with some people worrying that without adequate supervision, they could perform sophisticated cyberattacks and carry out other malicious tasks.
