Free download offered to PlayStation gamers as way to 'make amends'

Steam is giving away free content because of its soulslike blunder

PlayStation has issued an apology, but not in the form of a statement- but as freebies to their loyal gamers.

There’s only a few games that has a kickass female protagonist, and one recent action RPG delivered exactly the opposite.

Because of this, Sony and Steam have apologised to their fans, issuing a free RPG to lessen the sting.

When Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was released earlier last month, people were relieved to get a new soulslike on the market.

Following the story of Bai Wuchang, a female pirate who needs to navigate the mysterious Feathering Disease and all the horrors that come with it.

Developed by Leenzee, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was met with less and less enthusiasm thanks to its less-than-smooth launch.

So, as of right now, the soulslike is still trying soften the blow to those it let down.

As people claimed to have botched pre-order rewards and annoying performance issues on the PlayStation 5, the company decided to issue free downloadable content as a way to “make amends” according to developer Leenzee.

As a result, the free DLC will feature two things: A Steam Deluxe Edition in addition to the single costume as compensation, with 3 extra sets of Deluxe costumes + 4 weapons.

Then they offered 3 headgear items across all platforms to Standard and Deluxe Editions holders.

They’re also giving the same to those who own Wuchang: Fallen Feathers on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro as a nice touch.

“As a token of appreciation for your early support and to make amends for our oversight, we will provide additional compensation to all Deluxe Edition owners,” Leenzee said on Steam.

Thankfully, the company hasn’t forgotten about the performance issues and shared that it plans to address them with a series of upcoming patches.

While some people were disappointed with the flaws of this new game, GAMINGbible’s Dan Lipscombe noted some great things that many aren’t talking about.

He said: “There are some flaws here, but they’re only noticeable because the industry has produced so many great entries into the ever-popular genre. Despite those flaws, it never stopped me wanting to play. In fact, this is probably the most invested I’ve been in a soulslike since Elden Ring.”

Adding: “The environments fare better than the character models, as each new part of the game unveils astonishing visuals, but all but our Wuchang is created in a staid, almost forgettable way. Mouths don’t move during dialogue, textures are a little patchy, but this can be forgiven when mountains evoke a sense of scale and danger through blustery drifts of white; or underground caverns patter with water, sparkling from nearby candle flames. Honestly, the lighting in this game is lush.”

All in all, he shared the game is targeting a specific audience that enjoys scantily clad characters and big breasted women.

Does it really matter if there are some minor issues surrounding performance?

In the end he ranked it:

Pros: Gorgeous visuals, wonderful exploration, satisfying combat, plenty of new ideas

Cons: Some design choices, minor frustrations hold back boss fights
