Morgan Freeman might be one of the best-known actors around, and while his mantle is adorned with an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, a Golden Globe, and a SAG award, he might be kicking himself for missing out on a not-so-small fortune.

Freeman's net worth is a reported $250 million, and that comes after he paid his ex-wife up to $200 million in 2010. He could've been worth a lot more, with a resurfaced interview from 2016 explaining how he was dabbling in the stock market thanks to Elon Musk.

Back then, Freeman told CNBC: "I own Tesla. I’m a huge fan of Elon Musk’s and I think he’s got the most incredibly forward-thinking ideas about where we can go technologically."

Continuing to praise the SpaceX and Tesla CEO, Freeman gushed: "You know, what he’s done, nobody else has ever done. He’s landed a rocket ship so it’s reusable — you know what a feat that is?

“Now we’re taking off and we’re going to Mars, delivering stuff to people who are going to be settling there, just like they settled the Old West, and bringing those ships back and landing them and reloading them."

Musk has previously reshared the interview and wrote, "Morgan Freeman is awesome," before again resharing it in January 2025.

Although Freeman didn't reveal how much stock he owned, the fact that Tesla stock has soared by a jaw-dropping 800% in the past five years gives you some idea of what it could be worth.

Tesla stock closed at $13.52 on September 6, 2016, and with it currently sitting at $390.30, it's risen by 3,000% since then.

If Freeman had invested $10,000 in 2020, it would now be worth $53,713 - boasting a mind-boggling 437.13% return. As Freeman's investment goes back even further than that, he could be sitting on a fortune. A $10,000 investment from 2016 would now be worth over $300,000.

This may seem like a relatively small sum for someone worth $250 million, but in terms of investments, it would've been a pretty solid one.

Responding to the latest reshare, one fan cheered: "Elon, invite Morgan to the next launch."

Another added: "Of course he is the most influential man of our time. The greatest avant-garde of our time. Elon and his legacy, will be key to the journey to the stars.”

The world has changed a lot since 2016, with someone else concluding: "That was 2016. Being a Musk fan was the norm then. I was one too! We all believed the hype!

"Elon's burned up much of that goodwill in the last 8 years. So, you might want to ask Morgan Freeman *now* if he's still a fan. Maybe he is, but a lot of us former fans aren't anymore."

The question is whether Freeman got out years ago or is still holding onto the wheel of his Tesla stock. Business Insider asked about the investment, with a spokesperson for Freeman explaining: "Mr. Freeman has a policy of not publicly discussing his personal investments."
