Fans of a 'mind-bending' sci-fi series on Netflix continue to express their frustration years after its cancellation, as they remain hooked on the plot and desperate for a second season to arrive.

We've all been there - a new show drops on your favorite streaming service and instantly you're hooked, only to find out soon after that it's been dropped with no future in sight while simultaneously ending on a cliffhanger.

The word 'canceled' is enough to make any TV lover wake up at night in a cold sweat, and fans of one particular sci-fi show are still hung up on the failure to renew their series-of-choice.

As reported by the Daily Record, 1899 was a promising sci-fi adventure released on Netflix back in 2022. While it's true that there's certainly a lot of competition when it comes to the genre on TV, let alone the countless excellent sci-fi movies you can watch from the comfort of your couch, fans certainly seemed to connect with this particular show.

It features a cast of immigrants from all across the world who are travelling on a steamship from London to New York, only to get caught up in a mysterious riddle as a mirroring ship is found in the open ocean.

It was definitely a popular choice at release, soaring up to the second spot on Netflix's own TV charts with 79.27 million hours watched, but that seemingly wasn't enough to earn it a second season leaving it canceled just a few months later.

Understandably many people who enjoyed the show were left disappointed and unfulfilled at the news, and countless theories have cropped up as to why Netflix made the choice.

"My honest guess [is that] it was just too expensive to carry forward and Netflix seems to come out with a new business plan every other year that transforms the service," explains one user on Reddit. "Easiest thing for them was to just cancel it and move on."

"My guess [is that] it has to do with the dub," adds another, explaining that the default audio choice selected an all-English voiceover dub that was "so bad" in the eyes of this commenter.

Understandably, others have also expressed their anger at the fact that everything was left on a cliffhanger, and now there's no space for answers.

"Are you f***ing kidding me? They leave us with THAT TWIST and pretty much nothing resolved and now it's cancelled???" We all feel your pain.

Fans remain still hung up on the show years later though, as every few months at the very least there's a new post from someone asking why it was canceled.

"I really like the diversity of nationalities and languages in one. I liked the character development. I really think this was a good one. I understand there are so many similar shows like this but this one was a keeper," explains a post from a few months ago on the show's subreddit. "A bit annoyed now," they add.

In reference to the question, one user adeptly puts: "Because Netflix sucks and are cowards," and it's hard not to feel their pain in this situation.

Not all hope is lost though, as there have been some other shows that seemed otherwise doomed yet have been given hope following a recent move. Additionally, there's always the chance that another streaming service could pick it up if the audience remains loud enough, although while you wait you might want to start binging some other critically acclaimed alternatives.
