Explorers uncover 'staircase to Hell' where they drop hundreds of feet below ground in 'risky' expedition

Explorers uncover 'staircase to Hell' where they drop hundreds of feet below ground in 'risky' expedition

“I really do feel like I'm in the pits of Hell right now.”

For many people, the idea of squeezing yourself into narrow passages and contorting your body to fit into a dark cave sounds like a claustrophobic nightmare.

It’s a type of adventure that isn’t for the faint-hearted and certainly not a challenge to underestimate.

Caving is a sport that can be fatal if something goes wrong, proven by a tragic incident that took place at the Nutty Putty Cave in Utah.

John Edward Jones was a 26-year-old who became stuck upside down after taking a wrong turn in the cave.

Rescuers spent 28 hours trying to save him, setting up a rope-and-pulley system in an attempt to remove him from the cave.

But after the system failed and Jones fell back into the hole, he suffered cardiac arrest from the strain his body was under and died.

Another harrowing caving accident took place when two university students tragically lost their lives after becoming stuck on rope close to the bottom of a 125 ft pit in Ellison’s Cave, Georgia.

It’s at that same cave where YouTuber duo James and Edward - known on YouTube as the ActionAdventureTwins - dropped a GoPro down the deepest pit in America.

The identical twins regularly post content about their daredevil adventures but there is one particular clip that left viewers feeling ‘scared’.

Uploading the video titled The Staircase to Hell, the twins wrote in the description that: “This cave was like a giant set of stairs that led us deeper and deeper into the earth. descending down into it was the scariest thing we have ever done.”

Their expedition took them around 11 hours to complete, which they posted in three parts, eventually descending into the cave and finding a huge waterfall along the way.

In the video, they encountered some disasters, adding: “My walkie talkie fell in the water, that was a bad thing to happen we have got no communication, I'm freezing, I have no batteries for my lights.

“I really do feel like I'm in the pits of Hell right now.”

Fans of the channel were kept on their toes as they watched James and Edward navigate their way hundreds of feet below ground.

Towards the end of the third part of their adventure, they added: “We are trying to get it out of this super tight passage, we are just ready to get out of here. Dude I'm like scared to move, I'm probably going to cramp so bad.”

Making their way safely out of the cave, they reveal that it was the “most insane thing” they have ever done.

Taking to the YouTube comment section, one user wrote: “I’m having a panic attack watching this! You guys are insane, thanks for the adventure! Stay safe.”

Another said: “Wow..you guys have guts. I was scared and shaking watching you guys on my comfortable sofa. Just amazing how much we haven't seen on our earth. Thank you for sharing.”
