WhatsApp has finally introduced a long-awaited feature that can completely change how users have conversations on the app.

The Voice Chat feature will enable people to have live conversations without having to make a group call.

It’s a feature that has long been requested by fans of the messaging app and now it will finally be available on WhatsApp.

How does Voice Chat work?

Instead of a traditional group call where each person will need to pick up, users will be able to dip in and out as they wish.

The audio conversation will continue and users can connect live anytime they want to without having to create a group first.

This means that users will be able to connect with their contacts that are available for an audio chat, making group calls much more flexible than before.

On the WhatsApp website, it explains: “Voice chats allow you to instantly talk live with members of a group chat while still being able to message in the group.”

The messaging app continues: “Starting a voice chat doesn’t notify or ring anyone, so that people can join and leave the hangout whenever.”

The feature is mainly designed with large groups in mind so that people can join chats without having to make separate calls.

WhatsApp has said that the feature is ‘only available for groups of 33 to 256 people’ and also ‘only available on your primary device’.

How do you start a Voice Chat on WhatsApp?

If you want to start a Voice Chat, you’ll first need to activate the feature on your app.

You can do this by opening any group on WhatsApp and swiping up from the bottom of the screen.

If you hold this for a couple of seconds, it will automatically activate the chat.

Users won’t be notified and their phones won’t ring like a traditional call, instead the chat will stay activated and pinned at the bottom of the chat page.

Other new features for WhatsApp

This is just one of many new features that Meta has brought to WhatsApp recently.

Other exciting new additions to the app include more personalization for a user’s status, allowing people to add things like music and stickers.
