One inmate managed to make a staggering escape from the police by hiding in an unexpected location, as shocking CCTV footage shows his act of evasion in real time.
The idea of a prison break can often seem a bit closer to what you'd see on TV than reality, yet one escaped convict managed to evade authorities that were on the hunt in spectacular fashion — at least for a little while.
With all of the camera technology that's available to people nowadays though it's almost impossible to not be picked up by something when you're on your way, and this once-lucky inmate's dastardly escape came to an end thanks to a conveniently placed camera.
While shocking CCTV footage does show the police momentarily missing the prisoner in his hiding spot, it did eventually lead to his re-arrest as homeowners notified authorities shortly afterwards.

As reported by KPLC 7 News, it was 47-year-old Shon Alick Jolivette who was on the run from the police after escaping from St. Landry Parish prison on charges that included armed robbery, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Jolivette managed to initially escape the firm grasp of the law after being brought to a nearby hospital for medical care, and he then found himself on the run and eventually in the backgarden of Lafayette resident Spencer Simon.
Simon's CCTV camera at the rear of his house managed to capture Jolivette climbing into his black wheelie bin, which was no doubt a tight squeeze but an effective hiding space for the time being.
It clearly worked a treat too, as you can see towards the end of the clip that police and a search dog were completely fooled by the prisoner's hiding spot, as they investigated mere inches from his location but didn't think to check in the bin.

Upon viewing his camera's footage though Simon was able to notice Jolivette's attempts to elude capture, and saw him moving into another storage container in the same back yard.
He then notified police of the escaped convict's location and prompted the police to return, after which Jolivette was once again arrested and the manhunt was put to an end.
There have been a number of comments on TikTok applauding the prisoner for his clever attempts to avoid capture though, with one writing that you've "got to give him props for trying."

Another added that "credit where credit's due, even went to the trouble of moving the chair back so it didn't look sus."
