Family go viral after discovering 'real' baby is actually fake and dad had no idea

The 'mother' has since spoken out

One woman has gone viral for all the wrong reasons after her family discovered her newborn 'baby' is actually a doll, leaving everyone including the dad in shock as they thought it was real.

Faking pregnancies isn't anything new as it's something people have unfortunately been doing for almost all of history, yet with new technology and tools at your disposal, it's seemingly never been easier to deceive others.

Often the ruse would fall apart when the baby actually had to be born, but now there are lifelike dolls that are scarily convincing when it comes to replicating a real-life child, and that managed to fool one family that has now gone viral on social media.

As reported by the Mirror, 22-year-old Kira Cousins from Airdrie, Scotland recently gave birth to a child, welcoming Bonnie-Leigh Joyce into the world with a shower of gifts from friends and family.

Despite supposed complications prior to the birth where doctors warned about a possible heart defect, Bonnie-Leigh was seemingly brought into the world with no issues, weighing in at 5lbs 4oz according to a Facebook post from Kira herself.

This joined a number of other images shared by Kira on social media, where she had a baby shower, gender reveal party, and even showed the baby apparently kicking her stomach before it was born.

However, not long after Bonnie-Leigh was born her family shockingly discovered that her newborn baby was actually a realistic doll, and Kira had never been pregnant.

It all began when Kira's own mum spotted the doll in her bedroom, and she was quickly confronted by her entire family and the baby's 'father' — who had been informed that Bonnie-Leigh had passed away in a bid to cover tracks.

Revealing the truth on her TikTok account, Kira wrote: "In my own words let's set this straight. I was in bed when my mother came into the room and found it to be a doll.

"Prior to this, I had been keeping myself away from literally everyone. The next thing I know, I was confronted by all the family. Don't for one minute think they let me get away with this, they haven't. And none of them knew. Neither did the dad and his family."

Friends seemingly got a bit suspicious and thought something was up when the baby never cried and Kira wouldn't let anyone touch or hold the child, and she even deleted all evidence of the baby's existence from some chats with friends.

The doll itself was sourced from a company called Reborn Baby, which supply a number of realistic fake babies with some rather interesting features. Some of the dolls are warm to the touch, have built-in breathing mechanisms, and others even respond to what you're saying.

They can cost as little as £30 ($40) but the company's website notes that 'really high quality items' are around the £300 ($401) mark, with some even paying as much as £20,000 ($26,782) for the highest spec models.
