A horrifying animation details what the terrifying consequences of not wearing a spacesuit in space would be.

And spoiler alert - your time in space would be short and pretty grim.

It’s a scenario not many of us probably consider but if you were to find yourself floating in space, what would happen if your spacesuit suddenly disappeared?

One YouTuber has the answer as Zack D. Films shed some light on the bizarre hypothetical situation.

Voicing over the terrifying animation, Zack explained that ‘most people think your body would just explode under the pressure’, however that isn’t necessarily the case.

The YouTuber said: “The first thing that would happen is you would immediately lose all of the air in your lungs, this would be quickly followed by your skin swelling as your bodily fluids start to vaporize and in just a few seconds you would lose consciousness due to lack of oxygen.

“If you went away from the sun over the span of a few months, your body would freeze as it floated into the abyss.”

That’s not exactly an ideal situation and many viewers took to the YouTube comment section to share their own reactions to the clip.

One user wrote: “Lesson Learned: Make sure your space suit doesn't disappear randomly.”

Another said: “Imagine finding an alien corpse just floating through deep space.”

A third person joked: “Props to Tom Holland for sacrificing his life for this animation.”

And a fourth added: “New fear unlocked: space suit suddenly disappearing when ur in space.”

While it’s highly unlikely any of us will ever find ourselves in space, let alone with a missing spacesuit, it seems like space tourism is on the rise.

This comes after Jeff Bezos launched his latest 10-minute mission into space as part of his New Shepard program.

The billionaire’s space firm Blue Origin is paving the way for tourists to buy their own tickets to space for the first time ever.

One controversial trip happened earlier this year when singer Katy Perry caught a ride to the edge of space alongside Lauren Sanchez, who is the wife of Bezos, and TV personality Gayle King.

Perry was criticized at the time for the environmental impact of the short flight, which enabled the star to spend just four minutes outside of Earth before hurtling back down to solid ground.

Still, if this video has taught us anything, if you’re going to head to space, just make you have your spacesuit with you!
