Woman who went viral after debating Charlie Kirk speaks out following assassination

Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck while on stage

A woman who went viral after debating Charlie Kirk has spoken out following his assassination.

Kirk died last Wednesday (September 10) after being shot in the neck while on stage to a 3,000-strong crowd at Utah Valley University (UVU).

A manhunt was conducted by the FBI and 33 hours later, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was arrested under suspicion of murder.

Now, Naima Troutt, who previously went viral for debating Kirk on abortion, has taken to Instagram to share her thoughts after his death.

In the caption of the post, it reads: “Support an end to gun violence in the US. If you empathize with Charlie, empathize with children. donate link below and in bio. I want to be honest about the man that Charlie was, but I don’t want to make POCs and POC creators a target, or add to the intolerance and division.”

In the clip, Troutt shared that she does not want to ‘increase the political divisiveness in this country’ or to be ‘villainized and scapegoated’ as someone who once debated Kirk.

She went on to say: “I know that Charlie Kirk actively attacked some of the most vulnerable in our community. I know that he sent buses of people to the January 6th ‘stop the steal’ protest that would become the capital riots, and I know that he literally died while actively defending gun violence.

“The irony is not lost on me, but I’m not celebrating, guys. I don’t think this is a good thing at all. I’m really concerned about what this means for American democracy, which is already fragile enough.

“The point of democracy is to create a moral code, a social contract that mitigates political violence and chaos, it’s not flawless, it fails many and in that case, outrage and protest are more than necessary.

“In my eyes, Charlie Kirk is like the greatest test of that social contract. How do we challenge someone who we know is working to destroy the norms of civility without sacrificing our own morals? And that is the challenge we all have to accept. All of us, regardless of party.

“Some people are going to use their first amendment right to promote a rhetoric we find abhorrent, that might directly target us but we can’t use that as an excuse to condone murder.”

A memorial service is set to be held for Kirk on Sunday (September 21) at State Farm Stadium in Arizona.
