A woman made a bizarre discovery when she found that her driveway had been ‘stolen’ in broad daylight, resulting in a strange mystery.

The homeowner from Tennessee was in the middle of selling her property when she found that the driveway leading up to the home was gone.

Paige Batten discovered that the concrete drive had been stolen after a prospective buyer enquired about when the driveway would be finished.

According to a report by Local 3 News, Batten said: “I had a call on Saturday morning...and she was like, Hey, we’re thinking about putting in an offer. When are you going to finish up the driveway? And I’m like, well, the driveway had a couple of cracks in it, but we’re not planning on redoing the driveway. And she’s like, well, maybe we’re at the wrong house.”

Batten had first bought the house last year as a flip project.

According to local reports, witnesses described seeing multiple trucks with heavy equipment being used outside the home on the morning of November 14.

However, residents on the street assumed the team of workers had been hired to carry out legitimate work on the property so they were not questioned.

Left behind afterwards was the dirt and rubble underneath the drive, with Batten alerting the incident to the non-emergency line.

Some people believe that they may have simply gotten the wrong address but the truth behind the missing driveway remains a mystery.

And it looks like it is going to be costly for Batten as, if the culprits are not found, it could set her back around $12,000 to install a replacement.

She added: “The biggest thing is just trying to, you know, find out who did this by not trying to accuse anybody or anything, but just hopefully somebody will come forward and go, ‘hey, we made a mistake’. And, you know, own up to it, and hopefully we’ll get a driveway, porch without us paying out all the money.”

Many people have since taken to social media to react to the news, with one user writing on Reddit: “Literally had just had a new one put in this summer, the only thing louder is having your roof replaced. Unless it was a gravel driveway and they picked each rock up by hand…”

Another said: “It starts with driveways, then next thing you know they're stealing highways.”

A third person joked: “On an unrelated note, I'm currently trying to sell a lightly used driveway. I'm open to negotiations.”

And a fourth added: “You wouldn’t download a driveway.”
