Nicki Minaj could be the latest unlikely pop culture figure to make the leap into politics. Although not quite following in Arnold Schwarzenegger's footsteps by running for Governor of California, the rumor mill has gone into overdrive that Minaj will step up to be President Donald Trump's next press secretary.
It's fair to say the Trump administration has been through a fair few press secretaries during his two terms, with Katie Zacharia serving as his sixth. Unfortunately for Zacharia, she set a record as the shortest-serving press secretary in US history and lasted just five days in the role.
Donald Trump clearly needs a new press secretary, but could that be Nicki Minaj?
According to TMZ, Nicki Minaj is legitimately in the running to pick up where Zacharia left off. Two staffers are apparently 'glowingly floating her name', while White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared a video of her discussing politics aboard Air Force One, adding: "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!"

While Minaj herself hasn't directly spoken about the idea, she reshared Cheung's post and wrote: "🇺🇸😅."
We wouldn't exactly say this is her putting herself forward, but it's not like Sam Altman saying he won't be running for president.
Polymarket's official odds list Anna Kelly as the most likely candidate, and with her serving as principal deputy press secretary since February 2026, she's arguably qualified for the role.
In second place is George W. Bush's former special assistant, Scott Jennings. Third is former financial reporter and news anchor Maria Bartiromo, but there's notably no sign of Minaj...yet.
Amid chatter that Minaj could replace Zacharia, the official Polymarket X account has taken note and shared the TMZ news and been called out for not putting her in its official odds.
Responding to Polymarket, the comments were mainly full of disbelief, with one person writing: "I feel like I'm living an episode of South Park."
Another added: "We are not a serious country anymore but an absolute laughing stock."

A third mused: "omg this would confirm that it’s all one big reality show fr 😂💅🏻."
Minaj has continued to remain close to the president, flying on Air Force One to attend a rally in Michigan. She appeared on stage in a gold Gucci suit, championing the POTUS ahead of midterms and starting her speech by chanting: "We love Trump. We love Trump."
Saying she's enjoying working with Trump, Minaj continued: "So many people were maybe giving up a little bit, maybe a little bit hopeless. And since he's come back, he's changed the energy of our country and given us a future to look forward to."
The president himself has heaped praise on the "Anaconda" rapper, although he was called out for commenting on her posterior. We can only imagine the headlines if Minaj lands the role of White House Press Secretary, but let's be honest, stranger things have happened.
