Air fryers have been nothing but good to us since they came into our lives, from cutting down our energy bills to making our lives healthier by eliminating the need for oil and deep frying.

They're a saviour on weekdays and lazy weekends when you don't feel like cooking and can still throw a healthy meal into the mini oven without too much effort. Crispy yet tender chicken has never tasted so good.

However, Best Buy, along with Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, are recalling several air fryer models due to safety concerns.

Six models made in China by Insignia were issued warnings about their potential to overheat and cause damage to the user.

The models involve a dual basket model, two air fryer ovens and three normal air fryers.

Specifically, four of the models had the ability to overheat, resulting in the handles melting or breaking, posing a fire and burn hazard.

Whereas, the lasting two air fryer ovens also have the risk of overheating, with the added risk of their glass doors shattering and causing lacerations to an unsuspecting user.

While Best Buy has received 24 reports of overheating, glass shattering, or melting, thankfully, no property damage has been reported nor any injuries.

'Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Insignia air fryers and air fryer ovens,' the Consumer Product and Safety Commission (CPSC) warned.

To identify if your air fryer is faulty, check for the INSIGNIA brand and one of the following model numbers:

Affected customers are advised to stop using the fryers immediately. Furthermore, they can visit the provided website for further instructions, such as how to submit an image of the air fryer and show proof of purchase - to which customers can receive a refund check or Best Buy store credit.

'Consumers should not return the recalled air fryers or air fryer ovens to Best Buy stores. Best Buy has contacted all known purchasers directly,' the CPSC added.

According to the CPSC's investigation, approximately 187,400 units were sold in the US and 99,900 in Canada from November 2021 to November 2023.

The models were sold between $32 and $180, both online and in-store at Best Buy or through third-party sellers.

If you're not an Insignia owner then keep enjoying the good life with your air fryer.
