Amazon buyers have been warned about a popular product they might have purchased, as the shopping giant has issued a recall for thousands of units over a potentially dangerous fire risk.
People buy just about everything from Amazon these days, as what started out as books in Jeff Bezos' garage has transformed into the world's largest shopping platform, offering everything that can be delivered at the drop of a hat.
Many people turn to Amazon for accessories throughout their house, as the convenience of delivery and ridiculous amount of options on offer means that you're bound to find the right thing for you.
One of the most popular household accessories for a number of years has been power strips or extension leads, as these allow you to upgrade your wall sockets to provide power in areas that would otherwise be inaccessible.

It's especially helpful around entertainment areas as most people need several plugs for their TV, soundbars, games consoles, and streaming devices, yet one popular product could be actually putting you at risk and has subsequently been recalled following the discovery of a malfunction.

As reported by the New York Post, Amazon has issued a recall for the a CCCEI-branded power strip, contacting roughly 5,543 customers after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) highlighted a dangerous issue.
Illustrating the hazard, the CPSC explained that "the power strips do not contain supplementary overcurrent protection, which creates a risk of fire if the power strips are overloaded.
"The resulting fire can cause serious injury or death from smoke inhalation and burns," it continues.
In essence, power strips are supposed to have systems built in which disable the output if a certain level of power is reached, as this protects the devices from overheating to the point of sparking an actual fire.

You often don't think about the amount of power that's going into a strip like this, especially if it has a large number of outputs, so breaching that threshold without the necessary protections could put your health and your home in significant danger.
The CPSC indicates that the recall was issued on March 26, 2026, and all affected customers will be issued a refund as compensation for the faulty product.
Not everyone who owns a CCCEI-branded power strip will be affected by the recall, but it appears to concern items sold on Amazon between April 2024 and January 2026 for between $23 and $30.
If this fits the conditions of your purchase, you are advised to contact Middle Way Electronics to return your item and receive a refund, with the recall number 26-346 as a reference.
