Elon Musk has been slammed for a ‘seriously unfunny’ joke he made to President Donald Trump during a recent cabinet meeting.
The billionaire has found himself at the center of government in recent months after being appointed head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
While not technically a government department, DOGE is purported to act as an outside advisor to Trump on federal spending.

However, Musk’s close ties with the administration as an unelected official since the inauguration in January has proven to be controversial.
This has sparked outrage with members of the public who have participated in boycotts of Tesla, with some Tesla showrooms even being targeted with vandalism.
Now, a clip has gone viral which was recorded from a meeting where Trump’s cabinet discussed his first 100 days in office.
But despite the discussions taking place, the video caught the attention of people on social media because of Musk’s notable fashion choice at the White House.

The Tesla boss could be seen wearing a large red hat placed on top of a black hat on his head.
The hat on top read ‘the Gulf of America’, referencing Trump’s decision to attempt to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico.

The video shows Trump noticing Musk’s bizarre fashion statement with him commenting: “Elon, I love the double hat, buddy. He’s the only one that can do that.”
And it’s Musk’s response that has a lot of people on X, formerly Twitter, cringing.
In reply, the SpaceX CEO said: “Well, Mr President, they say I wear a lot of hats and it’s true, even my hat has a hat.”
This caused people to rush to the comment section on X, where one user wrote: “Seriously unfunny but trying so hard.”

Another said: “Never in my life seen someone look so awkward in a hat. He should be taking it off, not stacking it.”
A third person questioned: “Why is he so insufferably lame.”
A fourth commented: “Elmo is so desperate to be funny. It’s painful to watch.”

A fifth user wrote: “Elon is living proof that no amount of money will buy a personality.”
And a sixth added: “F***ing clowns clowning around while the country burns to the ground.”
This isn’t the first time that Musk’s attire at the White House has sparked controversy, with the billionaire often being pictured wearing a Trump-related baseball cap and a slogan t-shirt.
