The OPSS has pulled the device due to its 'serious' risk of fire and electric shock.

Last week, news headlines were filled with the recall of certain air fryer models due to concerns about fire risks, from melting doors to glass shattering.

Now, customers who shop on the Amazon platform are being warned about another electric product that poses serious risks to its users.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) issued a warning with a 'serious' risk of fire and electric shock. This is the highest level of categorisation within the OPSS, which falls under the Department for Business and Trade.

The item is the 30W LED Flood Light, PIR-30W-6500K sold on the Amazon shopping platform.

Imported from China, the device is a 30W black, rectangular LED floodlight that comes with a small white remote and is packaged in brown cardboard packaging.

Here are its specs to look out for if you think you might have purchased this light:

  • Model: PIR-30W-6500K
  • SKU: LE-21-30W
  • Amazon ASIN: B0CCNS9YP1
  • Amazon identifier: FBA15HLN0VBKU000008

The OPSS highlighted that the product 'does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs & Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994.'

According to the UK product regulator: 'The product presents a serious risk of fire as the supply cord was of the incorrect type and cross-sectional area.

'The product was also deemed to have inadequate earthing as the clamping means was not adequately secured against accidental loosening and the contact surfaces were not bare metal.

'Under fault conditions this could result in accessible metal parts becoming life, causing the user to receive an electric shock.

'The instructions were deemed inadequate and some of the required documentation and markings were not present.'

Fortunately, future customers won't be at risk of buying the floodlight anymore. Future imports of the product are being stopped at the UK border, with customs rejecting all future importation of the China products.

Amazon Accessible is a service expansion from Amazon with an aim to create a more safe and trustworthy shopping experience online in response to cases like these.

The 'Your Recalls and Product Safety Alerts' page allows customers to view product recalls and safety information for purchased items on Amazon’s store. If they purchased a dodgy item, customers will also be able to choose from refund, return, or repair options.
