Don't go on the website before bed.

Whilst, the world loves true crime through a screen, the real world of crime is a lot more bleak.

If you're into the darker side of life and have a curiosity for true crime, there's a website that you might've come across.

But if you're someone who enjoys the darker side of life, then this website might be for you.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice has a website that collects information about executed death row prisoners. It shares details publicly about their background, the crimes they committed, and their last words before their execution.

There are currently 586 inmates listed with each of their documented last words, with the last one taking place on 16th November 2023.

The final words before death range anywhere from asking for forgiveness, to yelling at their spouses, to just straight up accepting what's to come.

There are some inmates that took the opportunity to quote movies, like: 'Tell them I said like Arnold Schwarzenegger, "I'll be back."'

Whilst others just want to cut to the chase, saying: 'Let's do it!'

Some tried to make light of their last words.

Serving a life sentence for murder, James French who killed his inmate to get him to the death penalty faster tried to make headline with his death asking: 'How about this for a headline for tomorrow’s paper? French fries.'

Meanwhile, some individuals expressed remorse for their crime, whereas others took the opportunity to say their last piece to the world like, 'I’d like to thank my family for loving me and taking care of me. And the rest of the world can kiss my a**.'

A lot of inmates also showed appreciation towards the warden, thanking them for their 'hospitality' during their time at the prison, as well as their last meal.

Over the course of history, some inmates' last words have made the news.

In 1928, George Appel is still remembered to this day for his infamous last line before his death. As he was being strapped into the electric chair for the first degree murder of a police officer, Appel seemed to have found the situation quite humorous and used his last words to announce: 'Well, gentlemen, you are about to see a baked Appel.'

This website may be too dark for some to ever consider peeking at, but for people that share this kind of morbid curiosity, I'm sure the internet isn't short of unsettling facts - including websites showing inmates' worst crimes or last meal requests.
