"Does he not have a PR person," questioned one astounded user in a thread discussing the 'news', whereas another asked: "Can we just not with him anymore. It's not like he's some generational talent."
Anyone who could get past their initial shock and actually look into both who shared the news and the Variety source will have quickly realized that this claim is indeed not true, as reported by the India Times, and was merely a fabrication by a parody news page.
The initial post on X was shared by an account called 'DiscussingFish', which styles its name, profile picture, and post formatting in the vein of the popular news aggregator DiscussingFilm, making it easy to mistake one for the other.

It's certainly not the first time that people have been fooled by accounts like this, as NBACentel, Poo Crave, and many others have repeatedly made people look twice at what they're reading and sharing on social media.
Additionally, taking a look inside the Variety article that's cited as the 'source' will let you realize that there's not a single mention of ChatGPT, although it is true that Leto is playing the manifestation of an AI in the film so at least it got one part right.
DiscussingFish also makes no secret of its attempts to fool people, as the account replied to one user taking their claim seriously with an image declaring 'You Got Discussing Fish'd', although that didn't stop plenty of people enlisting the aid of Grok in the replies too.
