Instagram users warned to 'not click button' that's 'impossible' to turn off once activated
Social media users are sounding the alarm online about a little known button located within the Instagram settings, urging others not to click on it.
This comes after users of the platform took to the internet to warn other people about a simple mistake they could make within the settings of Instagram that is ‘impossible’ to undo.
On Reddit, one user explained: “This AI profile button once clicked is IMPOSSIBLE to turn off. I learnt this the hard way by mistake and had to delete my profile of 8k followers all together after battling for like 2 weeks to turn off the thing.”
The setting in question is the ‘AI-generated profile’, which by default has its toggle turned off. Instagram instructs people to turn on the feature if their profile ‘features an AI-generated person’.

It is an important distinction from people who simply use AI tools as this setting is not for that and instead pertains specifically to AI-generated characters that the profile revolves around.
Other people on social media were prompted to take to the Reddit comment section to share their own reactions, with one responding to someone who asked if people will care by explaining: “People absolutely do care, especially those that don't want AI slop shoved down their throats 24/7.”
Another said: “Did they not consider that some people may do it accidentally? Also, maybe you could have patiently appealed.”
And a third user joked: “im gonna click it, you cant tell me what to do!”
What to do if you turn on the AI Instagram setting
If you have accidentally activated the setting option and don’t know how to undo it, first open up the Instagram app and head to your profile.
From there, select Edit Profile and look for AI-Generated Profile or AI Creator. If you see that the toggle is on, try switching it off and then check your profile to see if the label has disappeared.
If it will not switch off, try closing and reopening the app, or accessing Instagram through a web browser and repeating the steps.
If the toggle keeps turning itself back on, check your account settings and contact Instagram support for additional help.
One thing is for sure, if your profile is of you and not an AI-generated character, then resist turning the toggle on in the first place and you will save yourself a lot of unnecessary hassle.
