Honor has called out Apple during the reveal of the firm’s brand new ‘robot phone’ with a never-before-seen feature.
The tech firm announced an exciting new device yesterday (October 15) known as the ‘robot phone’.
This was unveiled during Honor’s Magic8 series launch event in Beijing, China, and the new phone has been described as having integrated ‘AI-powered multi-modal intelligence, robotic functionality, and advanced handheld imaging capabilities’.
In a video teasing the robot phone, it details the evolution of mobile devices, claiming it has gone from ‘phone’, to ‘iPhone’, to ‘AI phone’, and now ‘robot phone’.

In the clip, the phone is seen to have a robot arm with a camera, known as a gimbal camera, on the end that sticks out from the top of the device.
It appears to have a lot of personality, not dissimilar to characters like Wall-E from Disney Pixar.

It can be seen playing peekaboo with a baby and even offering fashion advice to a user trying on dresses, seemingly nodding in agreement.
The camera appears to be able to talk, making reaction noises to its users but it is not yet clear whether that will be a feature of the device.
The robotic arm folds away into the back of the device when it isn’t being used.
Many people have taken to social media to share their reactions to the news, with one user writing on Reddit: “Autobot transforms into Honor phone!”

In a statement, Honor said: “We are now witnessing a transformation from smartphone to AI phone and now to ROBOT PHONE. Starting from the new Magic8 series, HONOR leads the evolution of self-evolving AI phones - devices that continually advance in hardware performance, system interaction, and application ecosystem through AI-driven learning capabilities.
“With the new ‘ROBOT PHONE’, HONOR envisions the future phone as more than just a tool; it becomes an emotional companion that senses, adapts, and evolves autonomously like a robot, enriching its users’ day to day lives.”
While not much is known about the new device, more detailed information is expected to be released at next year’s Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain.
