People have been left feeling deeply concerned after a disturbing AI ad has gone viral.

The bizarre advertisement has been doing the rounds on social media after viewers were shocked by what they saw.

The commercial for AI claimed that it will enable you to ‘talk to your ex’.

Closure is an AI firm that states it helps its users to heal after they have been ghosted.

On the company’s website, it says: “Being ghosted can leave you feeling confused, hurt, and questioning your self-worth. Our platform provides a safe space to work through these emotions and find the closure you need to move forward.”

The AI is used as a sort of surrogate for messaging your ex, where you could be able to gain the answers you might be craving.

The site goes on to say that the AI will help people to ‘process unresolved feelings and questions’, ‘understand possible reasons for the ghosting’, ‘develop coping strategies for moving forward’, and to ‘find peace and closure on your own terms’.

However, this has been met with a mixed reaction from people who spotted the ad on social media.

Taking to Reddit to post a screenshot of the advertisement, one user wrote: “Saw this here when scrolling through my feed. Looks like Black Mirror type of stuff is slowly beginning to happen with AI. Kinda uncanny, what do you think?”

Another replied: “Noo why is this giving me ‘Be Right Back’ vibes,” referencing an episode of Black Mirror with similar themes.

A third person joked: “You can finally get closure from the ex who left you on read, only to be ghosted by customer support when you question the charge your credit card.”

Plenty of users shared a similar sentiment of concern over the increase in emotional dependency that people seem to have for artificial intelligence.

One person made the point that the ‘the highest use of ChatGPT now is companionship’.

This prompted a reply from another user who said: “AI companies are parasites feeding on the loneliness epidemic.”

How does the AI let you talk to your ex?

According to Closure, its technology works by enabling you to chat with an AI version of a person who went no-contact with you.

First, you’ll need to select the type of person who ghosted you, whether that is a friend, a date partner, a recruiter, or a long-term partner.

Then, you can share details about the relationship with the program to help the AI understand what happened.

The site goes on to say: “Our AI plays role of the person ghosting you. Express your anger, get your answers, and find your closure.”

A spokesperson for Closure told UNILAD Tech: “Closure wasn’t built to recreate a person in the literal sense, but it does help people navigate the emotions of being left without explanation.

“For many, that missing dialogue is a source of real pain. We’re not claiming to bring anyone back, just offering a space where people can try to process what was left unsaid.”
