Person left 'questioning entire career' asking ChatGPT to explain their job to a 5-year-old

Every day brings us closer to AI overtaking the human race

While the human race has slowly evolved over the millennia, artificial intelligence's evolution in the past five years alone is quite something to behold. It's easy to forget that ChatGPT only entered our lives in November 2022, with OpenAI's chatty chatbot now becoming a tool that some of us use every day.

Despite concerns about where we're heading as technology continues to advance, ChatGPT remains a juggernaut in the industry.

As ChatGPT regularly rolls out updates like iOS overhauls, there are obvious worries about whether it'll put human beings out of business.

More than OpenAI CEO Sam Altman warning that artificial intelligence will soon be more intelligent than his kids, he's also revealed which jobs he thinks will be completely eradicated thanks to the automation of AI.

Every day feels like we're edging toward artificial superintelligence where it overtakes humans in terms of thinking power, with the so-called Godfathers of AI continuously warning us about how it could seize control from us.

We've already seen AI confirm that it isn't above blackmailing or even harming humans who try to shut it off, but more immediately, we need to be worried about what jobs could soon be defunct.

Over on Reddit, u/Nipurn_1234 explained how they were left dumbfounded when they asked ChatGPT to explain their job to a five-year-old.

Saying how they're a 'Senior Data Analytics Consultant', the OP jokes that it's a "fancy title for someone who makes Excel charts." ChatGPT dumbs down their role and suggests that a Senior Data Analytics Consultant is basically someone who counts for people who don't have the time to count. Putting it in words a child can supposedly understand, ChatGPT said: "Imagine if your mom asked you to count all the toys in your room, but instead of doing it herself, she paid a stranger to come over and count them.

“Then the stranger makes a colorful picture showing that you have 10 cars, 5 dolls, and 3 blocks, and gives it to your mom like it's some big discovery."

Stating that this is an easy way to describe a Senior Data Analytics Consultant, ChatGPT tells us to swap out the toys for things like "How many people bought ice cream on Tuesday?" It then delivers a parting shot when it says they "make pretty charts about it."

Laughing off the situation and stating they have a Master's degree, the OP writes, "I've never felt so professionally attacked by such an accurate description 😭."

They go on to say that they told their mom about the interaction, with her apparently saying it's a perfect description of their job.

Their co-worker is supposedly in a similar spiral thanks to the following description of a Marketing Strategy Director: "Apparently she 'helps companies decide what colors to make their pictures and which words sound the most exciting when trying to sell people things they probably don't need'."

Responding to the exchange, others found it equally funny.

One person said: "Mine also made my job sound so much cooler than I ever have! Cell therapy process development scientist."

Another added: "Changed career from a 20-year IT bullshit job to a blue-collar worker, and not only am I now irreplaceable by AI, I've never felt more rewarded with the ACTUAL work and ACTUAL contribution to society.

A third concluded: "Omg I'm dying.

I want to ask ChatGPT about my job, but my job is literally training large language models, such as ChatGPT (ChatGPT and Gemini are on my work dashboard fairly frequently)."
