It looks like AI could be getting more access than ever before to our personal information after Anthropic announced it was testing out a new personal finance tool powered by its AI model Claude.
While it is set to offer users help with financial planning and provide a spending analysis, it will also mean that the technology will have direct access to your bank account.
This has led to questions about what the AI model will and won’t see when it comes to users’ personal data surrounding their finances, and will reportedly be named Claude Money.
What can Claude Money see in your bank account?
The things that Claude will be able to see include specific transaction histories, account balances, and linked metadata.
This means that the AI tool will have access to your bank balance from various accounts including savings, checking and any credit card amounts.

The bot will see details about purchases you’ve made including the likes of dates, amounts you’ve spent and the merchant names.

Other personal information shared with the AI will also involve data on your behavior with your finances, such as where you like to shop, where your utility bills go, any subscriptions you have and information on your income.
What can’t Claude Money see?
However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the AI tool will have unlimited access to all of your banking info. Instead, there are restrictions as to what Claude Money will be able to view.
First off, the feature reportedly won’t be able to see any private credentials like your password or username to login to your banking app.
It also will only be able to see the bank accounts you have specifically linked to Claude Money, meaning any unlinked accounts won’t be visible.
And fear not, the AI will not have authority to make any transfers, move money, or pay bills on its own, so it won’t be actually taking charge of your finances for you.

Tech bosses raise alarm over AI ‘Internet Takeover’ threat
Despite the continued advancements of AI, experts in the industry have continuously raised concerns about the growing risks surrounding the tech.
Earlier this month, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei shared a new essay where he warned that the ‘AI industry should slow down’, adding that AI ‘swarms’ could take over the internet in as soon as six months.
This warning from Amodei was met with support from other figures in the industry, with Elon Musk writing on X, formerly Twitter: “Dario is right.”
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s Sam Altman added: “I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier. This has been a primary topic of discussions we’ve had at OpenAI in recent weeks. Committing to having independent evaluators with employee-like access is a great idea, and we will do the same. We’ll have more to share soon.”
