What does your shopping basket reveal about you? While our Netflix profiles have long exposed our secret love for The Notebook, it seems more tech companies are jumping on the algorithm bandwagon to give you a more personalized experience.
While that might sound all well and good in terms of Amazon recommending that perfect product you never knew you needed, the shopping giant's new AI rollout has conjured up some pretty out-there results.
No one should know you better than yourself, but when it comes to Amazon's ‘About You’ feature, that might not be the case.
What is Amazon's About You feature?

Initially announced in March 2026, Amazon's About You feature is an AI assistant that's seemingly been watching us from afar ever since. Back then, Amazon reminded us how machine learning algorithms have been recommending books for years, with it now evolving into AI-powered tools. Championing this advancement, the online marketplace reiterated: "Today, nearly every shopping experience across Amazon is personalized to help hundreds of millions of customers find the exact products they want and need.

“We aim to make every experience feel like it was designed especially for you, whether you are trying to find the perfect outfit, a book you’ll love, or your next dinner idea."
Amazon tries to personalize your shopping experience further via conversations with your Alexa, items you've saved for later, product reviews, and general searches.
Examples include suggesting non-dairy options if you're consistently buying non-dairy milks, suggesting cat treats for your furry friend, or soil nutrients to help embrace your green thumbs.

All of this comes as Amazon says things like this are imperative to providing relevant recommendations.
To see what Amazon is saying about you, head to the About You section or simply ask Alexa for Shopping: "What do you know about me?”
You could previously manually update recommendation preferences or edit browsing history, while About You has been promoted as a singular hub where you create a tailored shopping experience.
That's all well and good, but the About You feature has recently gone viral for some particularly unusual profiles based on our habits.
The hilarious results of Amazon's About You
It seems some are only just discovering About You, and with it, they're splitting their sides with what Amazon thinks it knows about you. Over on Threads, one viral post read: "I stumbled upon a page of assumptions that Amazon has made about me based on my purchases and I’m literally speechless."
Here, Amazon dragged her by saying she 'has flat buttocks' in her product preferences section. Amazon isn't as rude as it sounds here, as she speculates About You simply scraped this from the fact she bought some butt-scrunch leggings.
The interaction spilled over onto X, where others shared the weird and sometimes wonderful dossiers that Amazon has built on us.
Sharing the above profile, another wrote: "Someone discovered a new Amazon AI feature that summarizes what it knows about you and I am crying of laughter."
There's also one that lists, "Has never known anyone who has lost a leg in an accident," under someone's 'Home & Family' section.
As Amazon customers dashed to their About You sections, we've seen everything from being too short to reach into a 40-inch box to someone who is supposedly "steadily funding Xbox ecosystem with digital credits."
We personally think that roasting someone for not having a family is pretty harsh, but our personal favorite is one parent having their kids name a playlist 'I farted on a rock'.
Even the AI detractors have to admit this one is pretty funny. Still, don't come crying to us when AI tries to blackmail you with information that you have 'flat buttocks'.
