While 2028 is still a little while away many are already thinking about who will be vying for a place in the Oval Office at the next US presidential election, with AI weighing in with the most likely candidates.
Current president Donald Trump would stand a strong chance if he was able to stand, yet the constitution blocks him from serving a third term and loopholes might not be iron clad enough to get around that.
Instead, a number of other prominent figures stand a chance of taking control in the coming years from both sides of the political divide, and only time will tell exactly who emerges victorious when the nation gets the chance to vote again.
It is especially important now as the midterms are upon us, and that could provide a vitally important pathway to victory for whichever party takes control of Congress, with some experts predicting a drastic swing of power.
AI offers prediction for the next US president
As reported by LADbible, one key prediction that AI has issued ahead of the 2028 US presidential election is that Donald Trump likely won't be on the Republican ticket in either position, with key loopholes already ruled out.

The 22nd Amendment clearly and definitively states that "no person shall be elected to the office of President more than twice," yet some have speculated whether JD Vance would be the 'leading' figure with Trump serving as Vice President, only to concede power and open up the opportunity for the current president to take the reins again.
AI determines that this potential loophole wouldn't actually work, as "there are significant legal obstacles, and it would almost certainly face a Supreme Court challenge."
This relates to the 12th Amendment, which states that an individual who is ineligible to be President is deemed equally ineligible to take the role of Vice President, eliminating the possibility for Trump to take that position.
That doesn't mean that JD Vance is out of the running for 2028, however, as he is currently sitting first in prediction market Polymarket's likelihood for winning the upcoming election, with a 21% chance overall.

Prospective Democratic candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is closest behind Vance with a 13% chance, yet the Democrats are currently predicted to have a 64% chance of victory overall, suggesting that the lower probability of the candidates is down to there not being a current frontrunner like Vance for the blue side.
Could Donald Trump actually serve a third term?
While the laws clearly state that Donald Trump would be unable to serve a third term as president in any circumstance, it's clear that he has been exploring all avenues and opportunities to see if the possibility existed.
Speaking at a recent rally in Bullhead City, Arizona, President Trump responded to chants of 'four more years' by declaring: "I'd love to. We have a clause that's sort of hard to break.

"It says you will under no circumstances be allowed – this is for anybody that's served two terms – be allowed to run under any condition for president of the United States after two terms [...] There's not a lot of wiggle room there. We've looked."
Some might have thought that his non-consecutive terms would have opened up the possibility, but the constitution is clear in what it states with no room no manoeuvre – as Trump admits to himself – meaning that there's an almost zero chance of seeing Trump on the podium again post-2028, although you can never rule anything out as we've learned.
