New PlayStation 5 owners warned to immediately change one setting

This small change could seriously improve your gaming.

Thanks to Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, some lucky gamers out there are now the proud owners of new PlayStation 5 consoles.

While you might be loving a lot about your new-gen console, there still does seem to be a long list of settings to optimize to make sure everything's to your liking.

And one thing that can really mess with your gaming experience? Lengthy download waiting times.

If your sessions are grinding to a halt with slow download speeds which can take hours, or even days - you're not alone.

Luckily, there seems to be a solution - and one PS5 owner has advised fellow gamers to adjust a certain setting on their consoles to instantly have quicker installation speeds.

Posting on Reddit, the user wrote: “If you recently got a PlayStation 5 during Black Friday or Cyber Monday and have a wireless mesh system and are experiencing oddly slow download speeds on your system make sure you set your network to 5GHz instead of 2.4GHz.”

They also said that they were previously experiencing download times of around “12 hours” before adjusting their settings, adding that their issue had now been resolved after making the change.

While switching your network to 5GHz might not be the quick fix every gamer desires, it might be the solution if you’ve been waiting for hours to install a particularly bulky download.

Back in the day this might have been easier to achieve with simpler models, but ensuring a smooth-running gaming session now requires checking connections and selecting compatibility with your TV if you want better in-game graphics.

And it’s certainly worth a try, especially with Christmas just around the corner and a set of fantastic new game releases that might just make their way underneath your tree.

Although if you do get a new PlayStation, you might want to watch out - some users are reporting their accounts have been permanently suspended, with no real explanation. Now that definitely wouldn't be an ideal Christmas present.
