It's no secret that rare and discontinued video games can be worth a pretty penny.
Typically, the rarer the game, the higher its value.
And, while the original PlayStation has one of the most diverse libraries of all games consoles, low print runs and limited availability put some of its titles amongst the hardest in the gaming world to get your hands on.

As a result, hardcore fans are often willing to part with some serious cash in order to add certain games to their collections.
Take Batman Forever Arcade for example. The game, which was first released in 1996, sells for up to $155.
And 1997's Castlevania: Symphony of the Night could bag you $590.
But, one 90s sci-fi game in particular could see you raking in much more.

Elemental Gearbolt is a beloved PlayStation title that's considered to be one of the rarest games out there.
The light gun shooter game was first released in Japan in 1997 and in the US a year later and follows a complex story of two powerful beings called Elementals trying to over the tyrannical leader of a sci-fi fantasy world.
With animated cutscenes directed by legendary anime director Rintaro, the game is much loved for its science fantasy setting - uncommon in light gun shooters - its incorporation of RPG elements and its beautiful artistry.

It's also known for its rarity and high cost, regardless of how you try to find it.
If you happen to own a copy of the US version of Elemental Gearbolt, you can expect to sell it for around $200. A sealed version of the Japanese release could bag you up to $300.
But, it's an extremely limited run of the game that's the most desirable to collectors.

The Assassin's Case edition featured the game sealed in a briefcase alongside a golden GunCon and memory card.
Just 40 copies of the game were produced in total which were exclusively available as a prize at 1998's E3 tournament.
As one of the rarest PlayStation games out there, existing copies of Assassin's Case consistently sell for more than $2000.
Another super rare PS1 game is Cindy’s Fashion World, a children's game released for the console in 2004.

Due to a bug that basically made it unplayable, it was removed from the shelves shortly after its release. However, it has been said to run fine on the PS2.
A copy recently sold on eBay for a whopping $2,226 and one PS1 game collector who's been on the lookout for it says: "At the rate things are going, I think I will be very lucky to see it for less than £1000!"
