PlayStation sometimes gets a bad reputation from gamers. While the Blue Team offers stellar exclusives like God of War, The Last of Us, and Marvel's Spider-Man, it's often called out for its subscription service options when compared to Xbox Game Pass. The Green Team boasts upcoming day one releases like DOOM: The Dark Ages, Fable, and Gears of War: E-Day, and while it's harder than ever to get people to ditch the system they’re used to, it feels like the console wars are heating up again. PlayStation is trying its best to lure people back to PlayStation Plus, with a major 2022 overhaul merging the old PS Plus and PS Now service into the tiered system we see today.
Away from playing High on Life, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, or RoboCop: Rogue City on PS Plus, gaming fans are reminded that there's an overlooked way to get PS Store credit without stumping up a monthly subscription cost.

The often forgotten PlayStation Stars loyalty system lets you collect points and spend them on actual games in the PlayStation Store. If you're looking to buy the upcoming Ghost of Yotei but think it might be a bit out of your price range, PlayStation Stars could help chip away at the price of admission.
To get your free PS Store credit, simply sign up to become a PlayStation Stars member (for free) and activate any of its active campaigns. As well as earning collectibles by playing specific games, you can earn some serious points by playing any of May's campaigns to earn 50 free points. Currently, you need to purchase a digital copy of one of the following: Fatal Fury City of the Wolves, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Onimusha Warlords, Forever Skies, or The Last of Us Complete. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is already making a name for itself as a potential Game of the Year contender, while the likes of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and The Last of Us Complete are extremely popular titles you might already have in your collection.
Still, if you've been holding off on buying any of them and want to rack up those PlayStation Stars points, now could be the time to give them a go.

Alongside 50 bonus points, you'll also be rewarded depending on how much you've spent in the store. Hitting 1,2500 points gets you $5 to spend in the store.
It's a similar idea to the Microsoft Rewards system, although PS Stars has faced plenty of criticism over its many changes. Angry gamers say they've lost trust in the scheme due to controversial changes where PS Plus purchases no longer count toward points, and you have less time than before to spend your points.
Then again, with PS Stars potentially giving you something for nothing and not needing you to pay for PS Plus, you might as well make the most of these unexpected perks.
