A game developer has revealed the shocking amount of money that his free mobile game made in its first six weeks on the App Store.

YouTuber Sam Hogan unveiled to his subscribers just how much he’d made after making his free game available to download.

The app is called Stick With It and involves controlling a sticky blob along different platforms.

It costs nothing to download and you can play it without seeing any advertisements.

So, how does the app make money?

Hogan explained: “There are ads in the game but they're rewarded video ads.

“With rewarded videos a player has the option to watch one and they'll get something in return like an extra life or in-game currency.

“Incentivized ads like this tend to give a pretty good player experience when compared to other monetization options.”

Nearly two months after the game went live, Hogan lifted the lid on how much money he had made from it so far.

He said: “Let's first take a look at the revenue in the initial three weeks. In that time the game somehow got about 150,000 downloads across iOS and Android and it made around $926.”

After his revenue started to decline, Hogan decided to experiment with in-app purchases, allowing users to pay $1 to $2 to unlock skins available.

He added: “Stick With It is actually the ninth mobile game I've published over the last six years. A lot of my other games did not get many downloads and made basically no money at all.”

Since this update, Hogan revealed that his game has made a total of $2,400, most of which “is from ads and about $150 from in-app purchases.”

He went on to say that this figure is before “Apple and Google take their 30% cut”.

The transparency certainly caught the attention of Hogan’s viewers, who took to the YouTube comment section to share their reactions.

One user wrote: “As an aspiring game designer, I really appreciate you sharing this experience.”

Another said: “Gotta love the fact that this dude doesn't make mandatory advertisements in his game.”

A third person joked: “Okay now can you do a ‘How much money my video on how much money my free mobile game makes made’.”

And a fourth added: “I have mad respect for actually putting out how much money you made, soo many YouTubers never say or just lie saying a lower amount.”
