Nothing unveils new Phone (2a) Special Edition with red, yellow and blue accents

The company combined primary colours with Nothing's brand identity.

Nothing's new special edition phone takes a bold step away from its traditional colour schemes

Described as a ‘story of colour,’ the Special Edition celebrates the primary colours of red, blue and yellow.

'From our design identity to our collaborative approach with you, our community, transparency lives at Nothing’s core,' the Nothing website reads.

'The idea is to distil things down to their most basic, yet beautiful form. If we apply this notion to colour, we are left with red, yellow and blue.'

The Phone (2a) Special Edition aligns with Nothing’s identity by combining all three brand colours in a first-time product launch.

Red marks the right earbud of Nothing audio products whilst yellow features in the new Ear (a). And blue was a recent introduction in the Phone (2a) Blue.

'[...]but until now, never have all three colours lived in one home,' the tech company explained.

While it might seem like Nothing is making a big deal out of minor colour changes, the reality is that the smartphone market has been dominated by monochrome designs for far too long.

Sure, Google may have offered subtle shades every once in a white and an occasional bold colour from Apple's side, but nothing has broken the trend (pun not intended) of countless black and white devices over the years.

We are very happy to unveil Phone (2a) Special Edition,’ said Adam Bates, Nothing’s design director.

‘This is the first product to explore our primary colour palette. Its overall aesthetic references some of our design heroes from the past, whilst creating a new expression for a smartphone.’

The Phone (2a)’s improved cameras and updated software offer a more complete experience than Nothing's previous models.

The Special Edition shares the same specs as the stock Phone (2a), including a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor, 5,000 mAh battery, 6.7” flexible AMOLED display, 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage, along with dual 50 MP rear cameras.

Nothing noted that the (2a) has received no less than 13 updates since its launch in March 2024, each improving and adding new abilities to Nothing’s OS.

The most recent included ChatGPT's integration (when paired with one of Nothing or CMF by Nothing’s audio products), allowing users to coordinate conversations with AI from their in-ear device.
