A woman has issued a warning to MacBook users after a simple mistake destroyed her screen.

We've all gotten a bit careless with our tech when we're rushing around or not paying attention. Maybe we leave our iPhone charging too long or forget to give our laptop the proper shutdown it needs every once in a while.

Now, one woman learned a costly lesson after making a simple mistake when handling her MacBook.

Content creator Heidi (@classicheidi) shared her shock on TikTok after discovering her Apple MacBook screen had completely shattered from what seemed like the most harmless action possible.

“I just opened up my laptop to the biggest jumpscare of the century. I’m so confused,” Heidi (@classicheidi) said in her 59-second TikTok. “I just brought it [the laptop] outside and put it on my bed. When I put it on my bed, it was cracked […] I’m like looking it up.”

The only thing she could think of that caused it was placing a card between the keyboard and screen before closing it. It’s something that sounds like a common habit for students and adults alike (intentionally or not), and how many of you have done the same thing?

“Apparently, the pressure from this piece of paper internally cracked my screen. I would have never thought that could happen,” she continued.

"I would never have thought that that could happen," she described, adding that she's previously put pieces of paper in her laptop with no issues.

"Am I an idiot? Is that common knowledge?”

The comments section revealed people were just as baffled as Heidi, with many skeptics questioning whether a thin piece of paper could actually cause such expensive damage.

"I have a $100 Chromebook that's at least 4 years old and I dropped it on the treadmill once and it catapulted into the wall and was fine. I dont feel like a card should ever cause that kind if damage," the first user wrote.

“I’ve used my computer as a folder a million time[s] there’s no way,” another claimed.

Meanwhile, other users who seemed more familiar with Apple products weren't surprised at all.

“You should never, ever put anything between the keyboard and the screen. Your screen might’ve also been defect from factory and the piece of paper was its 13th reason," one TikTok user warned.

Another explained: "Apple screens are suuuper sensitive so yes that tiny thing can damage it."

A third added: “MacBook screens are very fragile! never leave anything on the keyboard.”

Some users even took advice from the video, expressing: "When I was at uni I used to ALWAYS leave some important paper in between and close it… nothing ever happened but thanks for that I’ll stop now.”
